The True Tone display is one of the most underrated features of the latest iPhone generations. It is completely invisible at first glance, and you can feel the difference only by picking up a device without True Tone. As Apple Vice President of Marketing Phil Schiller noted, as soon as you try this feature, you will no longer want to return to the device without it.

What is the True Tone Display on iPhone?
Apple first introduced the True Tone display with the release of the iPad Pro in 2017. True Tone is a system that adapts the glow of the screen to the surrounding lighting. As you know, the light, which is commonly called white, is not always such. Even screen light that appears white can vary in temperature. Sometimes the display shines blue, in which case the light is considered cold. If the light gives off yellow, then the screen glow is warmer.
The screen of devices without True Tone is always equally white. If you open a web page on the screen while being in a room lit by LED lamps, the display will indeed be white. However, if you open the same page on the street on a sunny day, it will seem bluish to you. True Tone technology compensates for this difference and adjusts the luminance of the display to the surrounding lighting. White always remains white, regardless of the conditions – on the street and indoors, in summer and winter, with LED lamps and in twilight.
For iPhone 11 Pro Max, iPhone 11 Pro, iPhone 11, iPhone XS, iPhone XS Max, iPhone XR, iPhone X, iPhone 8, and iPhone 8 Plus, True Tone is activated by default. However, if you do not like it, the function can be turned off.
