The Russian language is so original that some phrases sound very peculiar to an uninitiated foreigner. True, we ourselves do not always understand the origin of the word bundles. For example, in relation to a near or absurd person, the words “pedal horse” are often used.
♥ BY TOPIC: Why do not birds shock on wires.
The phrase clearly carries a negative connotation. And if the comparison of a man with a horse can still be understood, then what does the pedal have to do with it? And the jokers even posted on the Internet a picture of a mechanized and combat pedal horse.
In fact, this riddle has a logical explanation.
In fact, the pedal horse is a very real children’s toy. It was produced in the Soviet Union back in the 1950s at several plants. The toy was a consumer goods. It was a simple mechanism – a small horse was harnessed to the jockey cart. A wheel was placed under her chest, and two more were located behind. The child sat down, pedaled and set the structure in motion. At the same time, the wagon also imitated the movements of a real horse – the mechanism rose and fell.
In a subsequent modification, the pedal horse got its own sound. To do this, you had to pull on the reins and hear the neighing. But it was both inconvenient and slow to ride such a short horse and a small car. There were always not enough toys in the Soviet Union, but the pedal horse was still discontinued. Meanwhile, the model itself was remembered, and its name became synonymous with stupidity.
But the idea itself was not so bad. Over time, the Soviet children received an already improved and quite a vehicle – a car on the pedals.
This toy, albeit bulky, moved quite fast, was maneuverable, was able to honk and turn on the headlights. The heir to the pedal horse has become a real hit in children!
