Conscious “pirates” download illegal content just to get acquainted with it, and if they like it, they buy it. At least, I would like it to be true. Spreading about where to download and how to download would be completely superfluous – we all know about torrent trackers, many of us have these sites bookmarked for a long time.

However, there are still users who, knowing how to find and download movies, music, books and software to their device, confuse the meanings of the words “feast”, “seed” and “lich”. Actually, these words will be discussed further.
To begin with, it does not hurt to explain in general terms the principle of file-sharing networks using the example of BitTorrent. So, we all know that on the Web you can dig up a lot of interesting, but at the same time difficult to access or copyrighted content. To avoid problems with the law, this content is not stored on the server, but on users’ computers. When we find a file of interest to us on the Web and connect to its distribution through a torrent client, we start downloading it from other users. At the same time that we download content for ourselves, we also begin to distribute it. It is important to note here that the more users store the file of interest to us on their device, the easier it will be for us to download it. Therefore, it is advisable not to leave the distribution after downloading the content, so that other users have the opportunity to familiarize themselves with it. And now let’s move on to deciphering the terms.

What are seeds, peers and liches in torrents
Feast
Pir (Russian tracing paper from the English word “peer”) is a participant in file sharing. As soon as we start downloading or distributing any content through torrent networks, we immediately become “peers”. If a site displays the number of peers, we must understand that this number shows the total number of both downloaders and distributers.
Pirs are of two types Sida and Lychee (leechers).
Sid
Seed (again, tracing paper from the English “seed”) is a peer, on the device of which the full version of the file being distributed is stored. That is, as soon as we download the entire content that interests us, we immediately receive the honorary title of seed.
Seed is a peer, a participant in file sharing, but only one who downloaded the entire file for himself and did not leave the distribution after that (did not delete it from the torrent client or from the device).
Lich (leecher)
A lich (tracing paper with “leech”) is a peer that has either not completely downloaded content (selectively) or is in the process of downloading it. As soon as the distribution is completely downloaded, the lich will automatically become a seed.
The download speed depends mainly on the number of seeds in the distribution, therefore it is recommended not to leave it after downloading the information of interest. After reviewing the downloaded films, music, books, software, etc., if you like them, it is advisable to purchase them. Thus, we enable content authors to continue to delight us with their new products.
