Mac won’t boot (macOS): description of all screens and solutions

28/01/2022 by

Unfortunately, any technology, including those made by Apple, can fail. The reasons can be both hardware and software in nature, and sometimes the problem is caused by user actions. Even a computer as reliable as a Mac may fail to boot one day. It helps that the system communicates the cause of the problem or the expected action by the user using certain symbols on the screen. In this article, we will talk about the possible icons that appear when loading macOS and what they mean.

♥ BY TOPIC: Program stuck on Mac (macOS): How to force close? 5 ways.

Apple logo with progress bar

Apple logo with progress bar on Apple screen

During boot, the system detects the startup disk, and a progress bar is displayed when you start or install macOS. This screen may change to a blank window several times. It should be understood that during the installation of the system, the logo may remain on the screen for quite a long time. The indicator itself will also fill up slowly, sometimes freezing in one place for a long time. That is why it is recommended to start the installation of a new system in the evening, leaving the computer on all night.

If it seems to you that the wait is clearly delayed, and the computer just “freezes”, then you need to take the following steps:

1. Press and hold the power button for 10 seconds until the computer turns off. Now you can turn it back on.

2. If the problem persists, then press and hold the power button again while waiting for the Mac to turn off. Now disconnect all accessories from it: external drives, printers, USB hubs and other non-critical devices. It is possible that one of them or the cable is causing the problem. Turn your computer back on.

3. If the problem persists, turn off your Mac again by pressing and holding the power button.

4. Repair your boot disk with Disk Utility (see above). If it does not find errors on the disk, you can proceed to reinstall macOS (detailed). If errors are found and corrected, you can try to start the system again. If the result is unsuccessful, proceed to reinstall macOS.

  • Sign in to iCloud.com/find, find your Mac in the Devices menu and select the option “Unblock”. Next, you will need to take several steps to verify your identity.
  • Unlock a Mac using your mobile device: iPhone, iPad, iPod Touch or Apple Watch and its passcode.

Why iPhone won’t charge up to 100 percent: solution to the problem

29/12/2021 by

We already subconsciously want to charge our devices to the level of 100% before leaving the power source for a long time. Alas, this mark is not always achievable. At one point, you may find that your iPhone is not charging to the 100% mark. Is it broken or is it something else? Can this situation be corrected? We will tell you why this happens and what you can do.

♥ ON TOPIC: Why the iPhone slows down: the main reasons for the slowdown of Apple smartphones.

The inability to charge the device to 100% is immediately striking. Moreover, sometimes the iPhone’s charging stops at 80% altogether. In fact, there are several reasons for such situations. Let’s find out why suddenly your smartphone stopped charging fully and how to solve this problem.

  • Activated function “Optimized charging”…
  • Disabled option “USB accessories”…
  • There is a problem with the power supply or cable.
  • Software malfunction.
  • Hardware malfunction of the iPhone itself.

Now that we know the possible causes of the problem, let’s think about how you can deal with them.

Turn on the USB Accessories option

If you use a power bank or other external device to charge your iPhone, and the smartphone screen has been locked for more than one hour, charging may automatically stop. To prevent this from happening, set the USB accessories switch along the way Settings → “Face ID and Passcode” (or “Touch ID and Passcode” depending on the device you are using) to Included (in detail)…

Charging problems can arise from a faulty power supply, charging cable, or even dust trapped in the Lightning port. That is why, if there is a problem with a full charge of the battery, it is worth checking the accessories for obvious damage, and it is corny to clean the port of dirt. But this work must be done carefully, preferably with compressed air. If, upon visual inspection, the cable and adapter do not seem to be damaged, and charging is too slow or does not go at all, then you can try using a different set of accessories. This will help determine if the problem is with your accessory.

Why iPhone won’t charge from a USB port of a computer, a power bank, or charging turns off after an hour

19/12/2020 by ALOK DAS

If you are faced with the fact that the iPhone or iPad suddenly stops charging via USB from a computer or a power bank, then most likely the function is to blame. USB Restricted Mode, which appeared in iOS 12. This innovation is designed to protect the device from hacker techniques used by special services.

♥ BY TOPIC: Widgets on iPhone or iPad: how to add, customize and use.

USB Restricted Mode on iPhone and iPad: what is it and how to set it up correctly?

You can access your iOS device using several methods, including via USB. For example, a cracker can download all the necessary data from the iPhone (or iPad) through the Lightning connector, hack the passcode, and unlock the device.

USB Restricted Mode, introduced in iOS 12, disables charging and data transfer over Lightning if more than an hour has passed since the last time you unlocked your iPhone or iPad. That is, even having obtained a device, an attacker will not be able to retrieve data from it via USB, if enough time has passed since the moment it was last unlocked.

The mode is activated by default, however there may be circumstances in which you would like to disable it. For example, to charge your phone from a friend’s computer or while using CarPlay on long journeys when you cannot unlock your iPhone for a long time.

♥ BY TOPIC: How to track someone who was gifted an iPhone.

How to disable / enable USB Restricted Access Mode

1. Open the app “Settings”;

2. Select Face ID and Passcode or Touch ID and Passcode depending on the device used;

Why iPhone does not charge from the USB port of a computer, a power bank

3. Enter your access code;

4. Scroll down to the option “USB accessories”;

5. If more than an hour has passed since the last unlocking of the device, and you do not want to allow data transfer via USB, leave the switch in the off position;

6. If you want to enable USB data transfer, slide the switch to the desired position.

Why iPhone does not charge from the USB port of a computer, a power bank

Remember, it is best not to touch the switch to protect your device. Typically, users will unlock their iPhones every hour or two. If you need to transfer data from a mobile device to a Mac or Windows computer, simply connect it to your computer and enter your passcode. Data will be transferred even if more than an hour has passed since the last unlock.

USB Restricted Mode only available on iPhones and iPads with iOS 12 or later. The mode disables the device from accessing the CarPlay interface if more than an hour has passed since it was last unlocked, so in this case users will have to deactivate the function. From Apple documentation:

“When connecting an iPod Accessory Protocol (iAP) USB accessory via a Lightning connector (such as CarPlay, accessories and chargers, or removable memory cards) or connecting to a Mac or PC, you may need to unlock your device in order for it to recognize the accessory. “.

  • Using non-original charging cable. Replace the used cable with the original one or its MFI-analog;
  • Mechanical damage to the charging connector or other mechanical damage to the device. Contact the service center;
  • Defective device. Contact your place of purchase for a warranty replacement.

If, when you turn on the iPhone or iPad, it shows the apple logo on the screen without booting the system, try to force restart the device (described above), and if using it does not bring any result, restore the device using this instruction.

MacOS won’t load or freeze when the Mac boots up, the apple is on and nothing happens. What to do?

31/07/2020 by ALOK DAS

Mac computers with the macOS operating system on board are the benchmark for reliability and performance, but even despite this, no one is immune from force majeure circumstances, due to which the operating system may not load (apple on the screen) or freeze at startup. In this article, we will talk about typical faults and how to fix them.

♥ BY TOPIC: How to automatically empty Trash on Mac (macOS).

Macs fail to boot or freeze while starting macOS can be due to three main reasons:

  • a problem with the software or its update;
  • a technical problem (SSD, HDD, RAM, processor, motherboard memory, controller, etc.);
  • new equipment (must be disconnected). Even an ordinary USB stick or USB key could be the reason.

First of all, MacBook owners are advised to check whether the battery is dead and whether the charger is working.

If the process of launching and loading macOS has begun, but freezes at certain stages, for example, on an “apple”, then you need to go through all the points below the given algorithm of actions in order.

♥ BY TOPIC: How to hide files and folders on Mac (macOS) from strangers: 3 ways.

1. If MacBook, iMac won’t start due to (after) installing an update

Any Mac user updates the operating system on a computer from time to time. First of all, it’s free, and besides, the next releases of macOS provide new features, speed up the device and better unleash its potential. But sometimes users, after trying to update their operating system, face the same problem – the classic “apple” burns on the Macbook (iMac or other Apple computers) screen, and the operating system does not start. This is a known problem, but fortunately it is not hard to fix.

1. Shut down or restart your Mac.

2. Immediately after turning on or restarting, hold down the key combination on the keyboard Command (⌘) + R…

3. In the menu that appears, select the desired language.

4. Log in Disk Utility…

6. To mount the disk in the upper panel of the disk utility there is a button “To plug“. Click it and enter your password.

7. The name of the disc will be shown in the lower right corner, remember it. By default it is – disk2s1…

8. Close Disk Utility and in the top menu bar open the tab “Utilities“. Select an application from the list of utilities Terminal…

9. In the Terminal window, enter the following command:

and press the Return (Enter) key.

instead of Macintosh HD, you must specify the name of your disk, if it is different.

10. The line “No such file or directory“.

11. Now you need to enter the second command:

and press the Return (Enter) key.

If you do not care about the data stored on the hard disk, then feel free to skip this step and proceed to the next step.

Developers from Cupertino have come up with a special External Disk Mode (detailed), with which you can access data stored on a Mac’s hard drive to copy it to another Mac. The disadvantage of this method is obvious – the need for a second Mac and a Thunderbolt cable.

OS X

To activate the Target Disk Mode:

1… Connect both Macs using a Thunderbolt cable.

2… Turn off the problematic Mac and turn on the working Mac.

3… Start an unhealthy Mac with the button held down T and hold until the Thunderbolt icon appears on the display with a blue background, which indicates that the Mac successfully starts up in Target Disk Mode.

On a working computer, an external hard drive should appear in Finder, from which we will copy important data. After completing the procedure, safely remove the disc and turn off the computer by long pressing the power button.
