DISCOUNT (Rs 479 → Rs 179) To the Moon for iPhone and iPad – a soulful indie RPG with a touching storyline

31/01/2022 by

Not everyone favors indie games, which have also been awarded various “independent” festival prizes. At the mention of such projects, one often comes up with a picture of some cheap craft, with a dull dramatic plot and primitive pixel graphics. However, even among such creativity there are games that resonate in the hearts of the general public. For example, a project in the adventure genre “To the Moon”, which the developers transferred in 2017 to iOS and Android mobile platforms.

The plot of the game is quite interesting. In the future, scientists have learned to rewrite people’s memory. One of the applications of this discovery was the ability to edit the memories of a single person in such a way that, contrary to the real state of affairs, he believed that he lived his life happily, making all his dreams come true. Due to the fact that such an intervention in the depths of consciousness turned out to be an expensive procedure, it was usually ordered only before death. This made it possible for a person, at least at the end of his existence, to feel that he had lived a wonderful life and managed to translate into reality all his dreams, projects and desires.

Before us appears the main character – an old man who is near death, who is surrounded by those same scientists. They are ready to start the memory editing process, so they exchange a couple of phrases with him and start the memory replacement mechanism. The hero turns out to be decades younger, and all the opportunities that come up in his life get a new chance to be realized. From childhood, the old man dreamed of visiting the moon and, thanks to this journey into his past, he can rewrite it anew, live it the way he wanted.

So, the player will have to take part, together with the main character, in the most memorable events of his life – he will be able to trace the entire path of the character from the cradle to old age. Together with the main character, he will witness simple joys and sorrows, experience many bright moments and will be able to watch the series of successes and failures of an ordinary person. It may sound boring, but in fact the project To the Moon for iPhone and iPad surprises with its special spiritual mood, which is rarely found among the products of the gaming industry.

The developers refer to their offspring as JRPG (Japanese Role-Playing Game – Japanese role-playing game). However, it differs from the examples of this genre in its peacefulness: no fights, skirmishes and other combat elements. But in the project there are many simple puzzles and interesting areas that will need to be explored. The graphics, of course, are far from perfect, but in this case it plays a secondary role, and it fits perfectly into the overall picture. The wonderful soundtrack deserves special mention.

DISCOUNT (299p → 99p) Review of the game Florence for iPhone and iPad: a touching story from the developer Monument Valley

22/12/2021 by

Florence is a touching novella, stylized as a web comic, about the ups and downs of a girl in her first love. 25-year-old Florence Yeoh is a completely ordinary girl in whose life nothing happens. She only works, sleeps and hangs on the Internet.

Download Florence for iPhone and iPad (App Store)

But one day Florence meets a cellist named Krish and her views on the world and herself begin to change. In Florence, players will plunge into the vicissitudes of the main characters’ relationships: from happiness and quarrels to mutual spiritual enrichment and mental exhaustion.

Florence fully conveys the monotony of the main character’s life. The girl’s day begins with the fact that she wakes up and goes to brush her teeth. Everything is just like in life: the alarm clock rings, you press the button and doze a little more, then the alarm clock rings a second time and the game takes you to the bathroom, where you swipe left and right to direct how long Florence will brush her teeth. Then you drive to work, mindlessly killing time on a social network reminiscent of Instagram along the way. At work, you and Florence fill out spreadsheets and perform other accounting tasks. In general, everything is boring and monotonous.

Review of the game Florence for iPhone and iPad

But one morning Florence’s phone runs out of battery and the music stops playing. Pulling the headphones out of her ears, the girl hears an enchanting melody in the distance. So she meets Krish, for whom she begins to have feelings. The game is surprisingly accurate in conveying the feeling of starting a relationship, even the awkwardness on a first date. The conversation between Florence and Chris is displayed in clouds, and in order to build it, you need to collect puzzle pieces. At first, you will have to make an effort to collect the elements, but as the evening continues, it will become much easier to fill in the clouds – just like on a real date, when the first awkwardness disappears and by the end of the meeting, communication goes easily and naturally, ending with the first kiss.

Review of the game Florence for iPhone and iPad

Further, the game takes us six months ahead. Florence and Krish already have a serious relationship, and they begin to live together. At the moment the guy moves, it becomes clear that all the things will not fit in Florence’s apartment and you will have to decide what is important and what is not, which items will remain and which will go to the closet.

Florence is a fairly short game, taking about 30 minutes to complete. Fans of Monument Valley projects may not appreciate Florence, but if you’re attracted to experimental games that focus more on emotion than points, then this beautiful interactive novel is definitely for you.

Florence is available in the App Store at a price of 299 rubles. To download the game, you need an iPhone, iPad or iPod touch with iOS 10.0 or higher. The game is localized into Russian.

What Remains of Edith Finch review: a touching tale of misfortune, curse and negligence

01/09/2021 by ALOK DAS

For most people, games are a time killer that allows them to disconnect from reality and pressing problems for a while. But there are also projects of a different kind. They, like elite alcohol, leave a unique and deep aftertaste. Some games throw up philosophical questions, so much so that you want to stop, think and go somewhere in yourself. Others, with their created visual images and music, take us to a special world that we want to breathe.

Download a game What Remains of Edith Finch (App Store)

Sometimes even the story itself fades into the background. Such games are always an event and always mini-masterpieces, showered with the attention of critics and true connoisseurs. It is no coincidence that the adventure game What Remains of Edith Finch has received numerous nominations and victories in various categories. This is exactly the case when the creators managed to create something that does not leave you indifferent and makes you think about things that are important for every person.

Review of What Remains of Edith Finch

How such works are born is another interesting story. Giant Sparrow made its debut in the award-winning Swan Sketch game. The developers realized that their ideas find their admirers – the next project should be something sublime, in a similar way interacting with the beautiful and at the same time stunning. Interestingly, the original foundation of the idea was completely different. The head of the studio, Ian Dallas, decided to use his scuba diving experience – this was to be the theme of the game. The immersion of the ocean in darkness at depth beckoned and guaranteed a mystical experience and mysteries. But in the end, the developers did not like the ideas of diving, but the images of the shark, fish and pop-up inscriptions in What Remains of Edith Finch were found. However, the game is not at all about the ocean and its inhabitants, but about something else – about death and its place in our life. Apparently, the bottomless depths just inspired something like that. The topic seems scary and gloomy, but the developers approached it carefully and carefully, which prevents depressive thoughts from developing.

Review of What Remains of Edith Finch

The main character of the game is Edith Finch, and the action itself takes place on Orcas Island, Washington state. The woman’s great-grandfather in 1937 decided to move to America from Norway, fleeing the family curse. For some reason, all Finches died prematurely, only one descendant remained alive to continue the family line. But fate did not leave the fugitives alone – the head of the family drowned near the shores of his new homeland, and his descendants built a house on the island, which will become the main game stage. Finches continued to die tragically, after which the bedroom of the departed relative was left untouched in the house. At first it was the paranoia of the inconsolable mother, and then it became a kind of family rite. And for new family members, additional floors and rooms were completed. Edith received the keys to the house from her mother. Her brothers, of course, died. And our heroine finds herself in an abandoned, mysterious, mysterious place to try to unravel the mystery of the family curse or find out more about the origin of the Finches. It turns out that the rooms are sealed, but each of them has a peephole, and the key opens secret passages.

Review of What Remains of Edith Finch

Each room is a kind of epitaph for the departed relative of Edith. Everything in the room remained exactly the same as it was at the time of the death of the owner. With the help of furnishings, objects or an unfinished diary, we are invited to find out what this member of the family was like. Moreover, we can observe with our own eyes the last moments of his life. Magical realism is provided by short locations and emotional interactive sketches. The ability to “live” important minutes in someone else’s body makes the player an accomplice and allows you to feel more deeply in this story. The gameplay itself is simple – we just move from room to room, looking for hidden loopholes. Interaction with some “shrines” in the rooms frozen in time reveals more and more new stories to us. To run them, you need to flip through a notebook, then watch a drawn cartoon …

Review of What Remains of Edith Finch

The initially gloomy picture with a series of deaths becomes acutely emotional and close. The journey around the house itself is very interesting – like the island itself, it is full of vivid and precise details. It seems that everything here has a meaning. And each room has its own secret, its search turns into a mini-game. The habitats of the deceased Finches are literally permeated with their feelings, thoughts, character traits. And every little thing can make a difference, deeper revealing the character of the owner of the room. These are his photographs, books, personal belongings.

Review of What Remains of Edith Finch

The deceased inhabitants of the house are constantly taking our attention. We are invited not to save them, but to bring them to death. And it is pointless to resist it, you can only postpone it for some moments. The developers are trying to convince us that we should not be afraid of the inevitable (especially since it does not happen to us). We must accept and appreciate the aesthetics of these moments. The stories themselves are short, but different in presentation. There are both whole short films and just episodes or parables. We may not always find ourselves even in a human body – this is the mind that one of the Finches had. And in a couple of stories and from a place you will not have to move, just waiting for the inevitable. All deaths are unique in their own way, presented as an incredible adventure. Not without a riddle, a family monster. With the passage of the game, the family tree in the heroine’s diary comes to life, and each of the stories can then be relived anew.

Review of What Remains of Edith Finch

The creators of What Remains of Edith Finch managed to fit a whole family saga into several hours of gameplay. The game is often compared to the novel by Marquez “One Hundred Years of Solitude”, but the similarity is only superficial. Still, Marquez has a much more spreading family tree, and the aftertaste is completely different, more painful. The compactness of the game, its story and world, made it possible to provide charm even on such a slippery plot field. True, some understatement remained, allowing us to think out the ending ourselves.

The game What Remains of Edith Finch touches with the fact that it very carefully touches on an important topic in the life of every person – death. Here we are faced with a whole series of them, but not just watching, the game presents them under the guise of a mysterious family curse. Observing strangers to us, painstakingly written by artists, one involuntarily ponders what will remain after us. Those who are not affected by What Remains of Edith Finch will see it as a fleeting walking simulator or just an uncomplicated quest, but most often the game is perceived as some kind of atmospheric philosophical parable. Each product of this kind is a kind of work of art that you want to recommend and live again.

How to turn off Hey Siri without going to Settings or touching any switches

20/10/2020 by ALOK DAS

As you know, iOS function “Hey Siri” Allows your iPhone or iPad to constantly listen to voice commands, even when the device is unplugged. This is very convenient, but not always appropriate. For example, an outsider near you can say magic words out loud, and your gadget will “wake up” at the most inopportune moment. Fortunately, the function “Hey Siri” can be temporarily deactivated without going into “Settings” and without turning off Siri.

♥ BY TOPIC: How to make hands-free calls using Siri on iPhone and iPad.

Turn off Hey Siri temporarily

To temporarily disable the function “Hey Siri”, place iPhone or iPad on a table or other surface screen down… In this position, the voice assistant stops listening to commands and no longer responds to the passphrase until the device is connected to a power source. You can repeat as much as you like “Hey Siri”but iPhone / iPad won’t respond. However, as soon as you turn the device face up, the function is automatically activated again.

Advice: If the above method does not work, make sure that the function is activated on your device. Fitness Tracking… To do this, go to Settings → Confidentiality → “Movement and Fitness”…

Privacy →

The presented method is much more convenient than completely disabling Siri via “Settings”… If you turn off the voice assistant and then turn it back on, you have to learn everything from scratch. By placing the device face down, you temporarily deactivate the function. “Hey Siri” without any consequences. Starting with iOS 10, the feature is only activated on one of all nearby devices.

♥ BY TOPIC: How to tell Siri who your friend, brother, wife, children, etc. are?

How it works?

When you place your iPhone or iPad face down on a table, “Hey Siri” deactivated by the function Facedown detectionimplemented in iOS 9 and later. Built-in ambient light and proximity sensors allow the device to detect when it is facing downward. This feature also prevents the screen from turning on when notifications arrive, thereby saving battery power. Recall that of all the components of an iOS device, the display consumes the most power.

As already said, Facedown detection relies on data from two sensors at once – the ambient light sensor and the proximity sensor, which are not available on some iPad and iPod touch models. They are located near the speaker at the top of the device above the screen – in the same place as the Apple M motion coprocessor.

These sensors are found in iPhone 5s and later, iPad mini 2 and later, and iPad Air. Facedown Detection is an integral iOS feature and does not require separate activation.

DISCOUNT (299r → 75r) The Minims – A New Beginning game for iPhone and iPad – high-quality quest with a touching plot

09/05/2020 by ALOK DAS

The Minims – A New Beginning is an interactive adventure game for iOS, which you need to play on the principle of point-and-click (“point and click”). The application developer is Beyondthosehills Studio, which describes itself as a “small independent development team from Greece.” The game was originally created by engineer Andreas Diktiopoulos in 2013 as a benchmark test.

Download The Minims – A New Beginning for iPhone, iPad and iPod Touch (App Store)

The Minims – A New Beginning – This is an almost completely redone original game with an improved plot, puzzles, graphics and soundtrack.

The protagonist of the game is Mii – one of the last two representatives of fabulous minima creatures on the planet. The player must help him find his life partner Mo, who disappeared in an unknown direction. According to the plot, Mii and Mo live on top of a cliff – a high stone pillar in the middle of a vast wasteland. Minima are hairy creatures without arms and legs, but with huge expressive eyes.

The Minims - A New Beginning

The game begins with the awakening of Mii. In order for the creature to wake up, the player must force the spider to go down from the bedroom window and blow into the pipe. That is how the whole game progresses – you do not control the character completely and completely, but rather push him in the right direction. Camera movements (Mii smoothly bounces each time they interact with anything) resemble the mechanics of movements that first appeared in Gabriel Knight 3. Unfortunately, since the game was released, these mechanisms have rarely been used, despite the fact that they are ideal for interactive games.

♥ BY TOPIC: Toby: The Secret Mine is a fun Limbo-style platformer puzzle game for iPhone and iPad.

Despite the simplicity, the plot The Minims – A New Beginning very touching. During the game, you will have to face such vital issues as difficulty of choice and moral values. For the character, and for the player himself, too, the quest for Mo is a journey in an attempt to find himself.

The Minims - A New Beginning

At the beginning of the game, Mii changes the water in his pond using a cloud machine with rainwater, and makes coffee for the talking bush. However, the hero is forced to leave his cozy monastery and go in search of the missing wife. The game is not entirely without words – dialogue bubbles appear along the way, as in comics. Other characters are also found, but conversations are minimized. It is worth noting that the game speaks for itself without unnecessary words.

The Minims - A New Beginning

The Minims – A New Beginning – This is a small personal story with a minimalistic interface, unhurried gameplay and uncomplicated riddles, sometimes seeming too ridiculous, and the enchanting soundtrack from Maria Aloupi only enhances the experience. The game is full of surprises and charm and seems like a breath of fresh air amid the abundance of Flappy Bird clones.

The Minims – A New Beginning can be purchased on the App Store for 299 rubles. To download the game requires an iPhone, iPad or iPod touch, running iOS 9 and later.

Turning on the screen by double tapping it has become a popular feature of many Android devices.
