It is not difficult to scold domestic films, as well as football, politics, autodor or the health care system, for a number of objective reasons Russian filmmakers lag far behind their Western (and not only) colleagues, and sometimes even fall into the mud with their faces, ineptly copying ready-made and popular paintings.

“Doctor Tyrsa” (“House, M.D.”)
Let’s start with the domestic failure, for which the creators should be ashamed. Borrowing the idea of one of the most popular TV series of our time, they released an outright hack on the screens, while in every possible way denying attempts by critics and journalists to accuse them of plagiarism, calling their project a “Russian answer” to Dr. House, and also emphasizing the difference between the characters. In fact, the difference between Doctors House and Tyrsa lies only in the level of acting skills of Hugh Laurie and Mikhail Parechenkov.

“Escape” (“Escape” / “Prison Break”)
Next to Tyrsa, a copy of another mega-popular American project “Escape” should be placed, which began to be broadcast on Channel One in the same 2010 and with approximately the same success. However, unlike colleagues in the shop, the creators of the Russian “Escape” did not try to claim originality and indicated the names of the authors of the idea, Paul Schering and Monica Meyser in the credits.
The very idea of adapting “Escape” to Russian prison traditions and realities looked promising, but the quality of the final product leaves much to be desired.

“Homeland” (“Homeland” / “Homeland”)
In 2009, the Israeli TV series “Prisoners of War” was released, the protagonist of which was a captured soldier suspected by a secret service employee of going over to the side of the Arabs and converting to Islam. A few years later, Showtime started showing the American version called Homeland, which became mega-popular (including in Russia).
As for the domestic “Motherland”, even the eminent director Pavel Lungin and the star cast (Vladimir Mashkov, Andrey Merzlikin, Maria Mironova) could not explain to the audience why they needed to watch the Russian version. After the first season, the project was closed.

“The Far Side of the Moon” (“Life on Mars” / “Life on Mars”)
Let’s move on to less obvious and better quality adaptations. In 2007, the BBC finished showing the second season of Life on Mars, the protagonist of which is modern-day police officer Sam Tyler, who accidentally traveled in time and continues to search for a serial killer in Manchester in 1973.
Captain Mikhail Soloviev from “The Other Side of the Moon” also travels in time and catches a maniac, but already in 1979 in Brezhnev’s Moscow. At the same time, the team of producer Alexander Tsekalo really did a great job, well appreciated by the audience.

“My Fair Nanny” (“Nanny” / “The Nanny”)
The original series from the early 90s told the story of a Jewish girl named Fran Fine from a poor New York quarter, who ended up in the house of the famous producer Maxwell Sheffield and became a nanny for his children. The successful project was re-filmed in more than 60 countries and gained great popularity, including in Russia.
The domestic version of “My Fair Nanny” with Anastasia Zavorotnyuk and Sergei Zhigunov in the lead roles was originally completely copied (up to the splash screen) from the original, while until recent seasons the series was quite popular among housewives.

“Univer” (“Greek” / “Greek” / “GRΣΣK”)
A successful and to some extent original Russian TV series, which nevertheless has many coincidences with the American sitcom “Greek”, which also narrated the life of students and was released in parallel with the Russian version. However, there is no need to talk about the superiority of the original over the adaptation – the plot of the American “Univer” is based on the characters belonging to fraternities and sisterhoods, which would be of little interest and not understandable to the domestic audience.

“Theorists” (“The Big Bang Theory”)
Perhaps the most popular modern sitcom is being produced to this day, continuing to collect Golden Globes, Emmy and other industry awards, which cannot be said about the Belarusian adaptation called The Theorists.
Worst of all, the frontmen of one of the best teams in the history of KVN – “PE Minsk”, Dmitry Tankovich and Evgeny Smorigin, who played Seva Zaitsev and Kulya Sinus, respectively, took part in this shame.
Fortunately, only four episodes of The Theorists were broadcast on STV, which were rated by Kinopoisk users at 1 point out of 10 possible. And the main achievement of the project was the angry mention of it on the website of Chuck Lorrie (author of The Big Bang Theory).

Another very good foreign sitcom and another failed attempt to make money on someone else’s popularity with the involvement of famous people of KVN (this time Alexander Smirnov and the team (“Parma”). The creators of the Russian parody (it’s hard to call it otherwise) simply reshoot two seasons of the original with poor acting and camera work, for which they received appropriate ratings from viewers.At the same time, the under-series lasted for two whole seasons on Russian TV.

“Our Russia” (“Little Britain” / “Your Britasha” / “Little Britain”)
A much more successful project from the former KVNschikov, which eventually grew to a full-length film. Nevertheless, despite the denials of one of the authors of the project, Semyon Slepakov, the idea of ”Our Russia” was probably borrowed from “Little Britain” – a similar show consisting of sketches performed by two comedian actors. Later, “Nasha KZasha” appeared in Kazakhstan, “Fayna Yukraina” appeared in Ukraine, and so on.

“Kitchen” (“White’s Kitchen” / “Whites”)
In Britain, the project was closed by the BBC producers immediately after the first season of 2010-2011, while the Russian version really shot and delighted the audience with 6 seasons, two feature films (“Kitchen in Paris” and “Kitchen. The Last Stand”). as well as a spin-off series “Hotel Eleon”. The recipe for the success of a culinary story is quite simple – a good acting game, a well-developed (and not written on the knee) script and an unusually high-quality editing for the domestic audience.

“Interns” (“Clinic” / “Scrubs”)
According to the official version, the idea of the series came to the mind of one of the producers, Vyacheslav Dusmukhametov, who at one time graduated from the Chelyabinsk State Medical Academy and even attracted its graduates to work on the script.
A more realistic version seems to be that the Interns are based on the idea of the successful American TV series Clinic, and the viewer should thank not students from Chelyabinsk for the high level of humor, but KVNschikov Semyon Slepakov and Anton Morozenko, ex-captains of the Luna teams and the national team Pyatigorsk.
Be that as it may, the Russian version of the series about the tyrant doctor Bykov in the performance of Ivan Okhlobystin radically differs from the original and at the same time has a rather high, as for a domestic series, rating on Kinopoisk.

The Voronins (Everybody Loves Raymond)
One of the properties of many Russian serials is their high production speed. Having set up a conveyor belt and receiving views, domestic filmmakers churn out episodes in the hundreds, and the sitcom “Voronin” is a vivid example of this.
For the first 10 seasons, they successfully copied the American TV series Everybody Loves Raymond, after which they began to write their own scripts. Probably because the originals simply ended – from 1996 to 2005, the Americans released 210 episodes, divided into 9 seasons, while the Voronins, launched in 2009, are already filming the 22nd season and have shown almost half a thousand episodes to viewers.

“Happy together” (“Married … with Children”)
The series about the Bukin family is also striking in volume – 365 episodes over 6 seasons (that is, one episode per week without pauses and vacations). At the same time, the sitcom is an adaptation of the American original “Married with Children”, in the center of which is a loser husband selling shoes, a loafer wife with a young Alla Pugacheva’s haircut, a stupid daughter and a son who has reached puberty.
