Which microSD to buy: what is the difference between SD, SDHC, SDXC formats and how to choose the right memory card

03/02/2022 by

Memory cards have become an elegant solution to expand the internal storage of our gadgets. Today, in any electronics and communications store, you can easily purchase a popular microSD card format for your phone, camera or tablet. But such a purchase is fraught with some pitfalls. The user may simply overpay or unexpectedly run into problems: the memory may work too slowly or, in fact, be smaller. Below we will give some recommendations that will help you choose and buy a microSD card correctly.

♥ BY TOPIC: The best gadgets for Apple, home, work and play from AliExpress (updated daily).

Our detailed video:

1. SD card compatibility

Micro SD card formats

All microSD cards fit physically into slots of their format. However, not all devices work properly. It turns out that there are four varieties of this format with their own standards. They define compatibility. Many people have heard about the three main microSD formats: SD, SDHC, SDXC (or microSD, microSDHC and microSDXC). Full-size cards and their smaller counterparts operate on the same specification. In June 2018, a fourth format, SDUC, was announced. But such cards will become available over time.

Each of these formats belongs to the SD family, but they do not work in the same way. As a result, the formats are not backward compatible. New cards cannot be used with equipment that natively supports only older formats.

What is the difference between microSD, microSDHC, microSDXC and microSDUC formats?

• microSD has a capacity of up to 2 GB and can work in any slot for microSD cards.
• microSDHC has a capacity of 2 GB to 32 GB and will work on hardware that supports SDHC and SDXC.
• microSDXC has a capacity of 32 GB to 2 TB and is only supported in devices that work with SDXC.
• microSDUC supports cards up to 128 TB, but the device also requires support for this format.

It is not enough to check the compatibility of a specific memory card with the equipment; some other details should be taken into account.

Capacity and file system

microSD card capacityIt turns out that even hardware that supports microSDXC cards is unable to automatically work with all cards of this format. So, for example, Samsung Galaxy S9 officially supports memory cards up to 400 GB. No one guarantees that a 512 GB drive will work correctly on a smartphone. When using a memory card to transfer files from a mobile device to a computer, make sure that the PC supports the file system in which the media is formatted. For example, microSDXC cards use the exFAT system by default. Both Windows and macOS have supported this file system for quite some time.

Ultra high speed support

The SDHC and SDXC formats can support the Ultra High Speed (UHS) bus interface, which enables higher data transfer rates. There are three versions of UHS:

• UHS-I with bus speeds up to 104 MB/s.
• UHS II with bus speeds up to 312 MB/s.
• UHS III with bus speeds up to 624 MB/s.

To benefit from high-speed UHS technology, equipment must support it. Memory cards will also work in the old slots, but with a speed reduced to 25 MB / s. The second and third generation UHS also have an additional row of contacts on the map. They will be read on devices that support the first generation, but also at a reduced speed. Roman numerals located next to the card logo will tell you about the generation of the interface.

2. MicroSD card speed

Determining the speed of a microSD card is even more difficult than deciphering the formats and their compatibility. There are at least six ways to show the card’s capabilities, and it’s not uncommon for manufacturers to use them all at once.

microSD card specifications

Speed class

Speed class

This parameter directly shows the minimum write speed to the memory card in megabytes per second. There are four speed classes defined as follows:

• Class 2: at least 2 MB/s.
• Class 4: at least 4 MB/s.
• Class 6: at least 6 MB/s.
• Class 10: at least 10 MB/s.

Displaying the card’s base performance helps you understand if it’s generally suitable for specific tasks. But this parameter does not say anything about the maximum speed of operation. As a result, it is theoretically possible that a class 2 memory card will be faster than its class 6 counterpart. But class 10 cards should always be faster than their smaller counterparts due to the bus speed of 25 MB / s compared to 12.5 MB / s on cards of previous classes.

UHS speed class

UHS speed class

The UHS speed rating indicates the minimum write speed for microSD cards that support UHS-I, II, and III. We highlight this as a separate category, since some manufacturers write two classes at once on their cards. There are two options for the UHS speed class:

• U1: write speed of at least 10 MB / s.
• U3: write speed of at least 30 MB / s.

Application Launch Speed Performance Class

Performance class for microSD card application launch speed

This setting specifies the minimum supported write speed of 10 MB/s, as well as the minimum random read and write speed, measured in input/output operations per second (IOPS). Such a class guarantees the desired level of performance when storing Android applications on a memory card and running programs from it. There are two classes here:

• A1 with minimum random read speeds of 1500 IOPS and random write speeds of 500 IOPS.
• A2 with minimum random read speeds of 4000 IOPS and random write speeds of 2000 IOPS.

This class of performance makes you pay attention when planning to install Android applications on a microSD memory card. But it is not at all necessary that the carrier should be marked A1 or A2. Some cards without this class indicator may work well and even better than marked ones.

Video Speed Class

This indicator is responsible for the minimum sequential recording speed used when shooting video. And the higher its resolution, the greater the speed required. There are five classes of video recording speed:

• V6 with a minimum write speed of 6 MB/s.
• V10 with a minimum write speed of 10 MB/s.
• V30 with a minimum write speed of 30 MB/s.
• V60 with a minimum write speed of 60 MB/s.
• V90 with a minimum write speed of 90 MB/s.

Rated speed

It is logical to assume that a higher speed class equates to higher overall performance, with UHS cards being even faster. And some manufacturers also indicate the maximum speed of their products.

The figures are given in megabytes per second and will allow you to select the fastest cards. But these speeds are obtained from the tests of the manufacturers themselves. Theoretical indicators relating to the ideal case. Actual performance may be noticeably lower. In practice, external factors that affect the speed of reading and writing usually play a role. So, the time for copying files to a computer will be determined by its characteristics, and the USB cable used.

Relative speed

There is another way that manufacturers show the speed of their cards. It has to do with the recording times of CDs. Back then, the unit of speed was 150 kbps. As drives and discs evolved, 2x, 8x, 48x, and even 52x were advertised. This showed how many times the device is faster than the baseline.

Surprisingly, microSD cards have received such a marking. When we see a 100x mark on a product, it indicates a speed of 100 × 150 kbps, or 15 MB / s. But these indicators refer to laboratory, not real conditions.

3. Which microSD card to choose for a smartphone to take photos and videos

When buying a microSD card, the user usually already has in mind future scenarios for using the drive. It is important to choose exactly the solution that will be involved in the future. For the consumer, the volume and speed of the memory card are most often important, while record numbers are not required. You will have to pay a lot for high-capacity UHS-II U3 high-end cards, but you will not always notice the advantages that determine the high price.

If a microSD card is used to store applications on a smartphone, then you should pay attention to the performance class for startup speed. But if you plan to shoot 4K video on your phone, then the memory size and recording speed should become the priority parameters of the media.

Which microSD card to choose for a smartphone, for taking photos and videos

The SD Card Association recommends using UHS U3 cards for shooting 4K video. And for shooting video with FullHD resolution, ordinary cards of 10 or even 6 class will be enough. If the recording speed is too slow, frame drops will occur and the sound will be interrupted.

Photographers often prefer to use several smaller capacity cards together with one large one. This minimizes the risk of losing all data if the media is damaged. And when shooting in RAW format, you need to remember the impressive size of the image – 50 MB or more. In this case, you will need a card with U1 or U3 speeds and with a format of at least SDHC.

It is worth recalling that there is no fundamental difference between a full-size SD card and a microSD card connected via an adapter. If the device only supports a full-size card, then it is quite possible to use an adapter with a microSD card.

4. Fake microSD cards

At first glance, the advice to avoid fakes seems obvious, but buying non-original memory cards is very easy. Often an unknown seller offers a low price for branded memory cards. In this case, we can talk about an increased risk of running into a fake. A few years ago, a SanDisk engineer claimed that about a third of all SanDisk cards were actually non-original products. It is unlikely that this number has decreased since then.

When purchasing memory cards in an unknown store, it is better to read reviews about it first. Counterfeit microSDs usually show the capacity listed on the packaging correctly, but they won’t actually be able to store that amount of data. Free space on the map will run out unexpectedly quickly. You can check the actual capacity of your drive using the H2testw utility for Windows or F3 for Mac and Linux.

5. Buy branded microSD cards

Each of us had flash memory cards that once stopped working for no apparent reason. It is believed that these drives are generally highly reliable, but their death leads to the loss of all data stored there. It is for this reason that the purchase of memory cards manufactured by large brands is always preferable to cheap nameless cards. From a quality product, you should expect better performance, increased levels of reliability, protection from water, shock and even X-rays at airports. Big name manufacturers often provide a lifetime warranty and access to data recovery software. This standard is offered by SanDisk and Lexar.

What is the ideal microSD card?

Thanks to our advice, you can avoid mistakes when purchasing a memory card. It remains only to figure out which card is needed. Does it require a high write speed and should it be over 400 GB? The formed criteria and information about the standards and speeds of microSD cards, indicated above, will allow you to make the right choice.

Continuous Shooting on iPhone and iPad: How to Shoot 10fps and Choose the Best Image

13/11/2021 by

Burst shooting (Burst Mode) – a special camera mode on iOS devices, when it takes 10 pictures per second in a split second. This is a great way to capture a fast-paced scene, as it gives you a much better chance of getting a high-quality image.

♥ BY THEME: How to hide photos or videos on iPhone or iPad.

Before the iPhone 11, Apple smartphones could easily take a series of photos. To do this, you just had to hold down the shutter button in the Camera application.

Serial photography allows you to effectively capture some action, and in a group shot you can get the perfect scene when everyone has open eyes and no grimace. However, a similar action on the latest iPhones (iPhone 11 and newer) – pressing and holding the shutter button, results in a short QuickTake video. Fortunately, the burst mode is still there. He just hid behind a little-known gesture.

Like many other features in iOS, shutter button actions are now tied to gestures. By simply clicking on it, you can get a photo, which is expected. But pressing and holding this button allows you to shoot video as long as your finger remains on it. The same happens when recording a voice message in the application “Posts“.

But there is more. If you press and hold the button and then slide it to the right, you can instantly switch to video recording.

LED bulbs: how they differ from conventional ones and how to choose the best

08/11/2021 by

In the past few years, LED lamps have become more and more popular, and this is not surprising, because they can significantly reduce electricity costs without compromising the quality of lighting. In this article, we will look at how LED bulbs differ from conventional incandescent bulbs, how effective they are, and how not to make mistakes when buying them.

♥ BY THEME: We make 220 volts from 12 V in a car, or how to charge a laptop in a car (and not only).

What is an LED lamp?

LED bulbs use LEDs as a light source, while conventional bulbs emit light from an incandescence that is heated by an electric current. The inside of the energy-saving lamp is covered with a phosphor (fluorescent dye), which glows under the action of a gas discharge.

Each type of lamp has its own characteristics and disadvantages. The design of an incandescent lamp is quite simple: it consists of a filament (usually made of tungsten or its refractory alloys), enclosed in an evacuated glass bulb. Under the influence of an electric current, the thread heats up and begins to glow. The main advantage of incandescent lamps is their low cost, which, however, is offset by their low efficiency. In reality, only 10% of the consumed electricity is converted into light, the rest is dissipated in the form of heat. In addition, such a light bulb does not last long – only about 1,000 hours.

LED bulbs: how they differ from conventional ones and how to choose the best

A compact fluorescent lamp, or CFL (this is what an energy-saving lamp is called), shines almost as brightly, but at the same time consumes five times less electricity. Among the disadvantages of CFLs, one can name a higher price, a long warm-up period after switching on (several minutes), an unaesthetic appearance, as well as flickering of light, which is a strain on the eyes.

An LED lamp consists of several LEDs and a power supply enclosed in a housing. The power supply is a necessary component, since the LEDs require 6 or 12 V DC power supply or 220 V AC power supply in the household power supply.

Most often, the design of the housing of LED lamps resembles a “pear-shaped” shape with a screw base of the usual lamps, which ensures their trouble-free installation. The devices have a number of advantages, including a different color of radiation (depending on the LEDs used), low power consumption (on average, 8 times less compared to incandescent lamps), durability (they last 20-25 times longer than incandescent lamps) , low heating of the case, independence of brightness of illumination from voltage drops.

LED bulbs: how they differ from conventional ones and how to choose the best

A significant drawback of such lamps is the price. Their price tag is several times higher than the cost of incandescent lamps. However, the high cost is offset by lower lighting costs, provided the lamp does not burn out prematurely. At the same time, LED lamps of quite decent quality can be purchased on the Internet, not significantly exceeding the cost of conventional bulbs. For example, from this link on AliExpress, you can buy LED bulbs of standard design at a very attractive price, there are 9 power options.

LED bulbs have other disadvantages as well. In particular, uneven light distribution due to the fact that the built-in power supply impedes the luminous flux. However, some manufacturers work around this limitation by using a special form of construction such as this.

In addition, the opaque lamp body looks unaesthetic in glass fixtures. The disadvantages include the lack of a dimmer (dimmer), as well as unsuitability for use at very high and low temperatures.

♥ BY THEME: Best Thrillers: A list of the top 35 films with descriptions, trailers and links.

What to look for when buying

Due to the many characteristics, choosing the right LED bulb can be a daunting task.

Supply voltage

LED bulbs: how they differ from conventional ones and how to choose the best

If the voltage in the house or apartment is unstable, choose lamps that can operate in a wide range of voltages. This characteristic is usually indicated on the packaging. Note that at low voltage, LED lamps emit the same bright glow as normal.

♥ BY THEME: 36 unobvious facts about planet Earth that you might not know.

Radiation color

LED bulbs: how they differ from conventional ones and how to choose the best

Color temperature characterizes the light intensity of the lighting fixture. Color temperature is measured in Kelvin. As it rises, the color changes from yellow to blue. As a rule, the manufacturer indicates the radiation parameters on the packaging and the lamp housing: warm (2,700 K) – approximately comparable to the color of an incandescent lamp; warm white (3,000 K) – ideal for living quarters; cool white (4000 K) – for offices and production, close to the color of daylight.

Some lamp models allow you to adjust the color using special modes. If you do not tolerate the blue spectrum well and cold light seems dim to you, when buying a lamp with a cold spectrum, choose a device with a power reserve.

A separate category should be allocated to RGB lamps, which can shine in different colors, corresponding to the user’s preferences. Such lamps can usually be controlled using a smartphone or other Bluetooth-compatible gadget. An example of such an RGB lamp.

For special aesthetes, even lamps are produced that can quite realistically simulate a flame (example).

♥ BY THEME: How to reduce the consumption of mobile traffic on the iPhone. 13 tips.

Power

LED bulbs: how they differ from conventional ones and how to choose the best

Among the characteristics on the packaging of LED lamps, their luminous flux and power of incandescent lamps of similar brightness are given. In reality, the power of LED lamps is six to eight times lower. For example, the brightness of a 12-watt light bulb is comparable to the power of a 100 W incandescent lamp. Please note that the declared wattage is not always true and the lamp may shine less brightly. The luminous power can also decrease due to the decrease in the brightness of the LEDs over time, so there is a possibility that the device will have to be replaced long before the expiration of its service life.

♥ BY THEME: Bags, bindings, tools and other useful items for the cyclist.

Other significant points

LED bulbs are larger than incandescent bulbs, so they may simply not fit into a small shade.

For lighting devices that are switched on through a dimmer, you need to select suitable lamps – the packaging of the device should contain information that the lamp can be adjusted.

LED bulbs slightly distort the visual perception of colors. In some situations, such as when taking photographs, this can be significant.

♥ BY THEME: Charging case for iPhone: a selection of the best options in terms of price / quality ratio…

Switching to LED lamps

Considering the possibility of switching to more economical light bulbs, pay attention to a number of nuances. Firstly, it is advisable to replace only high-power bulbs (60 W and above), since replacing low-power bulbs will not bring significant savings, but the amount spent on the purchase of an LED lamp may not pay off. Secondly, replace bulbs in frequently used lighting fixtures, such as chandeliers or lamps in living quarters, since it makes no sense to change the lamp in places where you only occasionally turn on the light. Thirdly, do not expect a sharp reduction in electricity consumption after replacing lamps (savings can be 15-25%), since the main consumers of electricity are household appliances (iron, electric kettle, electric stove, washing machine, etc.).

LED bulbs: how they differ from conventional ones and how to choose the best

Finally, when choosing LED bulbs, don’t buy fixtures from one manufacturer, but try one or two brands first. The fact is that devices from different manufacturers may differ in the emitted light, even if the packaging claims the same color temperature.

Today, LED lamps are no longer an expensive technical novelty and are quite affordable. Considering that LED lamps compare favorably with conventional incandescent lamps, the transition to their use is quite reasonable.

Which cottage cheese is better to buy and how to choose it

01/08/2021 by ALOK DAS

Even as a child, we were constantly fed with cottage cheese, not forgetting to emphasize its benefits for bones and joints. Today, this fat-free product is an integral part of many diets. But what exactly is the benefit of cottage cheese, what is it like, how to choose it, and how much can it even be considered part of a healthy diet?

♥ BY THEME: How vegans differ from vegetarians.

Beneficial bacteria in curd

Louis Pasteur began to take an active interest in lactic acid fermentation more than 150 years ago. Thanks to the scientist, we learned about the properties of lactic acid bacteria to increase the body’s resistance to various diseases. Today, many people hear these terms: bifidobacteria, kefir mushroom, lactobacilli, Bulgarian bacillus. Natural fermented milk products with such microorganisms are in high demand, and beneficial bacteria are involved in the creation of fermented baked milk, yogurt, yogurt, sour cream and, of course, cottage cheese. Here’s what these bacteria do:

Lactobacillus produce lactase. This enzyme breaks down lactic carbohydrates to produce lactic acid. It, in turn, suppresses the activity of pathogenic bacteria, as a result of which we are less likely to get sick.

Acidophilus bacillus produces natural antibiotics in the intestines. They destroy pathogens, allowing the body to function better. These bacteria are so persistent that their use is recommended even with chemotherapy.

Bulgarian stick was discovered by I.I. Mechnikov. These unique bacteria produce lactic acid and normalize the intestines and stomach, while also boosting immunity. Bulgarian bacillus promotes the production of vitamins in the body.

Lactobacillus casei – a strong microorganism that can defeat the bacterium Helicobacter pylori, the causative agent of gastritis and ulcers.

However, in order to obtain these beneficial bacteria, along with fermented milk products, you will have to carefully look at the choice of products. So, in real cottage cheese, the number of beneficial microorganisms should exceed a million in one gram. If there are fewer bacteria, the wrong technology for preparing the product is chosen, or it contains preservatives, antibiotics that have got into the cottage cheese from the milk of the cow.

1. It improves the condition of bones and teeth due to the content of calcium and phosphorus in an easily assimilable form. Bone tissue becomes stronger, bones receive additional protection from fractures. Curd prevents the development of tooth decay, arthritis and osteoporosis.

2. Cottage cheese improves immunity due to the content of many beneficial bacteria that suppress the development of pathogenic microbes. The product can be considered prophylactic in the fight against thrush and other fungal diseases. It can be used with antibiotics to help stabilize digestion.

3. Cottage cheese reduces stress and eliminates its effects by synthesizing the “joy hormone” serotonin. And the presence of choline in the product improves the state of the nervous system and brain function.

4. Strengthening the heart and blood vessels. Cottage cheese reduces the risk of hypertension and the level of “bad” cholesterol.

5. Diuretic effect, which makes the use of cottage cheese in the treatment of edematous syndrome.

6. Curd is an ideal dietary supplement. It is easily absorbed even by people with lactose intolerance. The curd contains a lot of protein, beneficial microorganisms and little fat. And the amino acid methionine also makes the product an excellent fat burner.

How much cottage cheese can you eat per day, what are the contraindications and when is cottage cheese not allowed at all?

Cottage cheese can become harmful in the case of poor-quality production and individual intolerance to this particular product. And contraindications are due to the fact that it is an acidic product.

Curd can be harmful for gastritis and stomach ulcers. If you consume more than 250 grams of cottage cheese per day for men (200 grams for women), then the risk of constipation increases. Sometimes cottage cheese is prescribed in case of diarrhea, but you should not get carried away with this. It is worth abandoning such a product in case of diabetes mellitus, high fever, cough, asthma or inflammation of the tonsils. When eating cottage cheese, you need to brush your teeth before bed, otherwise lactic acid and bacteria can cause tooth decay.

Types of cottage cheese

Which cottage cheese is better to buy and how to choose it

Thanks to modern technologies, a lot of curd products are produced. Their assortment can confuse even a seasoned buyer. So let’s figure out the popular types of cottage cheese.

Fat free

Low-fat cottage cheese is usually called a product with a fat content of up to 1.8%. This curd is often called dietary. Due to its low calorie content, it has become popular with active fitness people. The very name of the product indicates a low fat content in the composition. But because of this, cottage cheese often turns out to be dry and it can be uncomfortable to use it quickly “on the go”, on the road. It is necessary at least to dilute the product with warm water, so it will be more pleasant and easier to eat. 100 grams of such cottage cheese will give 70 kcal. Low energy value is accompanied by the following disadvantage. In fat-free cottage cheese there are no fat-soluble vitamins A and E, part of the minerals (zinc, fluorine and copper). So a diet based on this product should be balanced.

Non-greasy

Low-fat cottage cheese is usually called low-fat cottage cheese – from 2 to 3.8%. Such a product is also often referred to as dietary.

Classical

Classic, or medium fat cottage cheese – 4 – 9% fat. This option can be considered ideal for dairy lovers. But when choosing such cottage cheese, you should give preference to options with a fat content of 4-6%. This type of product, unlike its predecessor, is much more pleasant to the taste. The calorie content of cottage cheese is from 120 to 230 kcal per 100 grams, and the percentage of fat affects the content of proteins and carbohydrates. The fatter the cottage cheese, the less protein it contains.

Grained

This name hides cottage cheese with a low fat content. The “grains” are large granules of cottage cheese, and the liquid part is cream. But on the packaging, they may not be indicated in liquid form. For example, if granulated cottage cheese has a fat content close to 0%, then a few cream will simply be absorbed into the cottage cheese grains. So such a product, in principle, cannot be fat-free – even if the cream is drained by the manufacturer, a small part of it will remain in the grains. The calorie content per 100 grams of cottage cheese is 110 kcal. The difference between such cottage cheese from the previous options is the presence of table salt. It is added at the stage of cream production.

Goat

This cottage cheese is rare in our stores, but it has a lot of useful properties. Such a product is absorbed better than an analogue from cow’s milk. Goat curd can contain 18-20% protein, many macro- and micronutrients. But the taste of this product is very specific. The fat content is about 9%, and the calorie content of 100 grams of the product is 160 kcal.

Home

The very name of such curd already evokes warmth and trust. What could be better than a home-made and hand-made product made from homemade milk? And you should not worry about the calorie content of such cottage cheese – the fat content of an average cow’s milk rarely exceeds 4%. The product will turn out to be not very fatty, and its calorie content will be about 130 kcal.

Fatty

It is customary to call fat cottage cheese containing 12 – 23% fat.

Curd, Curd mass or Curd product

Strictly speaking, this product is not cottage cheese at all, since it contains vegetable fats.

What fat content is cottage cheese better and healthier

Which of the whole variety to choose cottage cheese for a diet? Is it really only fat-free, with a fat content of less than 1.8%, as many advise? It is this option that those who want to lose weight prefer to use. Such cottage cheese is really useful, but there are several nuances. Low-fat (up to 3.8% fat) and low-fat cottage cheese contains 18% protein, and classic (up to 9% fat) contains only 16% protein, while fat (up to 23% fat) contains 14%. The type of cottage cheese should be chosen based on the protein and fat required by the body.

To replenish energy, people with an active lifestyle will have to consume more low-fat cottage cheese due to the impaired absorption of nutrients. The same calcium in low-fat cottage cheese is absorbed 30-40% less than in the classic one. The assimilation of the substance is facilitated by fat-soluble vitamin D, which is present only in cottage cheese with medium and higher fat values. And there are no vitamins A and E in low-fat cottage cheese.

Eating low-fat cottage cheese means taking animal fat from other foods. It is necessary for the production of hormones, the formation of cells of the brain and nervous system, thermoregulation. If you abandon animal fats altogether, then in a month the skin will become dry, and nails and hair – brittle. So you can understand about your abuse of low-fat foods.

Those who are still ready to include low-fat cottage cheese in their diet should learn about the frequent addition of starch to it for stabilization and volume, and the improvement in taste is achieved through flavors and sweeteners. In its natural form, such cottage cheese is very dry and tasteless. They say that it can be used with sour cream, honey or jam, but although it is tasty, it has nothing to do with the diet.

The ideal option in most cases is medium-fat cottage cheese (classic) with 4-9% fat

How to choose good cottage cheese

There are a few tips to follow when choosing a good cottage cheese. First, familiarize yourself with the composition of the product. In fact, the presence of only milk and sourdough is necessary and required. Cottage cheese must comply with GOST, and its shelf life does not exceed 5 days. So the date of manufacture must be taken into account. In the freezer of the refrigerator, cottage cheese can be for 2-3 weeks. Study the cost of the product carefully – a 200-gram pack cannot be cheaper than 0.5 liters of milk.

Low-fat cottage cheese can be distinguished from fatty cottage cheese in consistency. The product should be crumbly and slightly dry. If the cottage cheese looks like a paste and at the same time is also low-fat, then this indicates a low protein content and a high, up to 80%, water.

It is not always possible to assess the quality of the curd visually, but you can try to work with a test sample. To determine the presence of vegetable fats, it is necessary to leave the cottage cheese for a day at room temperature. If the color of the product remains, but it itself becomes more sour, then this is evidence of naturalness. You can also check it for starch content. It is necessary to drop iodine on the cottage cheese. If the color remains brown, then the curd is natural.

How to choose apps to back up to iCloud on iPhone and iPad

19/03/2021 by ALOK DAS

If you chose to automatically back up your data to iCloud when you first set up your iPhone or iPad, then most apps will use this feature. This is great, because in case of unforeseen circumstances, you can always recover from a backup. But how to selectively configure applications, some of which will make backups, while others will not?

Apple iPhone 12 vs Samsung Galaxy S21: which is better to choose

Galaxy S21 vs iPhone 12: display and design

In fact, no matter how antagonistic these models may seem, their displays are very similar. They are based on Samsung OLED panels. Of course, on the iPhone, the calibration is done according to Apple’s specifications – it’s fairly accurate in color, although there is a persistent yellowish tint. Samsung screens allow you to choose from several preset modes. You can choose from super-bright OLED colors or muted and lifelike colors, both great for their respective audiences. The screens are quite comparable in size, although the Galaxy S21 has a slightly larger display. However, the difference is not so great that it becomes a key criterion when choosing a device.

What’s really important is the Galaxy S21’s Dynamic AMOLED screen. Thanks to this, the display supports a refresh rate of 120 Hz. This makes all animation and device interaction very smooth. The iPhone 12 remains at the standard 60Hz. And while the overall smoothness of iOS alleviates the problem a bit, you can definitely feel the difference.

The square design of the iPhone is already a kind of classic, familiar to many. But such a shape seems to hit you on the hand, and the gloss of the frames gives your fingers discomfort. The new design for the iPhone 12 would be great for the iPhone 12 mini, but it looks worse on the larger models.

♥ BY TOPIC: How does a refurbished (refurbished, CPO) iPhone differ from a new and used one?

Specifications Galaxy S21 and iPhone 12

In fact, a direct comparison of the characteristics of Android phones and iPhones is always a bit of a dispute over which is better – apples or oranges. This is because Android and iOS work differently with their hardware. Anyway, here are the rough numbers:

Display CPU
and memory
Battery Camera Storage device Operating system
…
Samsung Galaxy S21 6.2 inches, 2400 × 1080 pixels Qualcomm Snapdragon 888, 8 GB RAM 4000 mAh 2 × 12 Mp,
1 × 64 Mp, front 10 Mp

…
Apple iPhone 12 6.1 inches, 2532 × 1170 dots Apple A14 Bionic, 4 GB RAM 2815 mAh 2 × 12 Mp, 12 Mp front 64 GB non expandable iOS 14.x

The Galaxy S21 is powered by the Snapdragon 888 (or Exynos 2100) processor, a 2.84 GHz octa-core chip built on a 5nm process. The smartphone received 8 GB of RAM for the best multitasking experience. What does this mean? The fact that the device will be very, very fast is probably the most powerful Android smartphone available for purchase at the time of this writing.

But the Apple A14 Bionic processor inside the iPhone 12 is in no way inferior in power to the competitor. This is Apple’s own 5nm chip with 6 cores and a maximum frequency of 2.99GHz. The A14 outperformed almost all of its competitors at the time of its late 2020 release, and it’s still slightly ahead of the Snapdragon 888.

The iPhone 12 seems to have only 4GB of RAM, but that’s not a big problem considering how iOS works. This operating system is able to freeze background applications almost instantly and provides the “illusion” of multitasking, forcing you to switch between images of real applications.

Speaking of internal storage, we’re talking about two models that don’t offer any options for expanding storage with a microSD card. So it is important for the buyer to initially choose the volume he needs.

Apple is rightly accused of being stingy, but 64 GB with some limitations will be enough for most users. But if you love taking pictures or playing games, then storage capacity becomes an important parameter. This will become especially evident after a couple of years when you accumulate a lot of files.

The base version of the Galaxy S21 comes with 128GB of storage, giving you a lot more storage space from the start. Plus, for around £ 5,000, you can get the 256GB model, which seems like a very generous offer compared to the iPhone 12.

All in all, both of these phones are very powerful. This is not to say that one of them is clearly superior to the other. You may notice that in some games the graphics on the iPhone are better than on the Galaxy, but this is due to a lot of non-obvious background things: developer tools, APIs, ecosystem, which is not directly related to the speed of the equipment or problems with it.

The Samsung Galaxy S21 proudly boasts three lenses on the back – a 12MP wide-angle camera, a 12MP ultra-wide-angle camera and a 64MP telephoto lens.

On the other side of the scale is the iPhone 12 with its dual cameras on the back – regular wide-angle and ultra-wide-angle.

Which is better Apple iPhone 12 or Samsung Galaxy S21: detailed comparison

How do they photograph in direct comparison?

The main cameras are impressive in terms of dynamics and sharpness. The iPhone does prefer a brighter exposure, even with the risk of some glare burn-in, while the Galaxy S21 struggles to maintain blue skies even if there is a risk of low exposure.

The color calibrations of smartphones are also different. The iPhone sticks to its signature yellow hues, while the Galaxy S21 opts for a bit of purple. But more often than not, it is the photos of the S21 that look closer to what we see in real life at the time of the shot.

Ultra wide-angle lenses are useful for landscape or artistic shots. The S21 and iPhone 12 have ultra-wide-angle cameras that create very soft photos, they have their pros and cons. When comparing specific shots, it seems that the iPhone is a little sharper, but also a little noisier.

Now on to zoom – how well does it work on the Galaxy S21? Technically, the zoom is digital and the results are not particularly impressive. However, this feature on the Korean flagship works better than the iPhone’s 3x digital zoom. It’s worth noting that the iPhone 12 works at a maximum 5x magnification, while the Galaxy S21 can work at a 30x magnification. Yes, the quality drops noticeably, but such scaling is present.

Most importantly, you can take 2x portrait shots on the Galaxy S21 – although the iPhone 12 has portrait mode, it only takes wide-angle (1x zoom) portraits.

In the meantime, there is no need to know about it. ”

As for selfies, we can again talk about similar opportunities. Both smartphones capture crisp, detailed images with excellent dynamic range. iPhone 12 tries to accurately reproduce skin tones in some challenging sunlight conditions – HDR works wonders at times.

Both phones have energy efficient 5nm processors that should last longer than previous generations. However, none of them will give you a significant increase in battery life. Little has changed because the new processors, no matter how energy efficient they are, are also more powerful, which also requires increased power consumption.

In any case, both the Galaxy S21 and iPhone 12 are reliable enough and will serve you in active mode with ease for a whole day, or maybe a day and a half. It’s worth noting that gaming has traditionally been the curse of the iPhone battery for many years.

Which Galaxy S21 and iPhone 12 to Choose?

Both smartphones are leaders in their lines in terms of price / quality criterion. However, over time, the Galaxy S21 will drop in price much faster than the iPhone 12.

Probably, the deciding factor when choosing a smartphone will still be the user’s general preference for the Apple or Samsung ecosystem.

The main camera module in the Galaxy S21 has 3 lenses – main wide-angle, ultra-wide-angle, telephoto, and many software functions for shooting with which you can and should experiment. On the other hand, the iPhone 12 on the back has an ultra-wide-angle camera in addition to the main wide-angle camera, but lacks a telephoto lens (optical zoom).

Galaxy S21 received support for “smooth screen” with a frequency of 120 Hz. The base storage size is 128GB versus 64GB for the iPhone 12. Samsung’s flagship design also seems better and more ergonomic. The disadvantages of this smartphone can be considered a plastic back panel and a kind of user interface with so many functions and options that it is easy to get confused in them. But in many respects it is solely a matter of personal preference.

IOS has fewer features, switches and settings, but it’s so reliable and easy to use. The iPhone 12 also benefits from MagSafe magnetic wireless charging support.

And the perception of the angular design of the iPhone is a matter of taste, many like the ergonomics of the Galaxy S21 more.

The performance of the Galaxy S21 and iPhone 12 is roughly on par.

Checking Mail on iPhone: Sample, Push or Manual, Which Should I Choose?

How to set up mail delivery (e-mail) on iPhone or iPad

In the standard mail client Mail, there are three modes of checking mail: “Sample”, “Push” and “Manually”…

Sometimes it happens that due to our own inattention, or because of someone’s playful hands, and sometimes completely by themselves, certain functions stop working for us. If the standard iOS mail client Mail has stopped automatically receiving mail and you do not know what to do, you need to follow these steps:

one… On iPhone or iPad, open Settings → Mail…

2… Select the menu “Loading data“.

3… For the required mailboxes, specify the schedule “Push“,”Sample” or “Manually“. You will find a description of each mode below.

Push

The “Push” function allows you to automatically push messages from the mail service to the iPhone or iPad as soon as they appear on the server. It should be noted that “Push” is not available for all mail servers. Also, do not forget about the obvious disadvantage of Push – the function consumes a little more battery. Push is ideal for active users who need to receive emails promptly.

The Galaxy S21 has a much less visible front camera in the form of a small hole in the screen that doesn’t take up much space. The iPhone notch can quickly get used to in everyday use, but this element can be very noticeable when watching videos and especially when playing games. On the other hand, the Galaxy S21 has a slightly tapering screen to make swiping easier, but also has the advantage of thin bezels. All this gives the appearance of the Korean flagship a truly futuristic look.

Samsung also has a couple of other advantages: its screen has a higher resolution and is generally sharper. The difference may be noticeable when reading the text. Most importantly, the screen can run at 120Hz refresh rates, which is twice as fast as 60Hz on an iPhone.

What’s new with the Galaxy S21 Ultra is that this high refresh rate can be used at the maximum supported QHD resolution and the screen will automatically adjust the refresh rate. The maximum 120Hz possible will only be used when needed, while the rest of the time the screen can intelligently switch to a lower and more energy efficient refresh rate, down to 10Hz.

In addition, it should be noted that the Galaxy S21 Ultra has a fingerprint sensor built into the display, as well as support for the S Pen stylus (sold separately).

The Korean manufacturer promises that this year its proprietary solution will finally match Snapdragon in both performance and energy efficiency. The opponent, in the face of the iPhone 12 Pro Max, uses the Apple A14 Bionic chip. Both manufacturers use the most advanced 5nm processor technology available. And these processors simply blew up the tests!

Despite the numbers unattainable for most smartphone models, the Apple A14 has a performance advantage over the Galaxy S21. The gap is especially wide in performance per core, where the iPhone looks like a real “monster”. But, interestingly, the graphics performance of both chips is practically similar, as shown by the GFXBench Car Chase benchmark, performed at 1080p on the Galaxy S21.

Samsung also has an advantage in the form of a more closely integrated 5G modem, the effectiveness of this solution will be revealed when working on 5G networks.

In terms of storage, the base model Galaxy S21 Ultra has 128GB of internal storage, which is exactly the same amount of storage offered in the base iPhone 12 Pro Max. The Galaxy S21 lacks a microSD card slot just like the iPhone, so there’s no quick and easy way to expand storage on either of the two phones.

The Korean flagship is equipped with a telephoto lens with 10x optical zoom capability, surpassing even the Note 20 Ultra’s 5x zoom sibling. There is another telephoto lens, this time with a 3x optical zoom for close-up shots. Combined, these two cameras make the Galaxy the best phone for getting the sharpest image of objects at a distance.

The most impressive feature of the Galaxy is its 100x Super Resolution Zoom capability.

Camera zoom Samsung Galaxy S21, S21 + and S21 Ultra

Interestingly, the Galaxy S21 has a wide-angle main camera with a 24mm lens, while the iPhone 12 Pro Max has a 26mm lens, like most other phones in its class. This may seem like a slight difference, but it gives a wider perspective of the main camera.

Both smartphones have support for low light photography.

Samsung Galaxy S21, S21 + and S21 Ultra camera

When it comes to video recording, the S21 Ultra can handle 8K resolution at 24 frames per second, while the iPhone 12 Pro Max can only shoot in 4K, but it supports Dolby HDR for richer colors. With 8K, you get much clearer detail, while the HDR option on the iPhone gives you a higher dynamic range. So both smartphones have their own unique advantages. This is if we talk about purely technical differences. In real life, when recording in 4K, it is noticeable that the iPhone still has a higher dynamic range, especially in difficult situations. And in extremely low light, the Galaxy can’t find enough light, and videos on this smartphone look too dark.

However, it would be unfair to just give the victory to the iPhone because it is inferior to the Galaxy in terms of zoom! iPhone can only zoom video up to 12X, while Galaxy can only zoom up to 20X. And in this case, this opportunity should not be ignored.

Battery in Samsung Galaxy S21 Ultra and iPhone 12 Pro Max

  • 5000 mAh (Galaxy S21 Ultra) vs 3687 mAh (iPhone 12 Pro Max)
  • Faster charging on the Galaxy S21 Ultra.

Both models have clear differences in battery capacity. But Android smartphones, which include the Galaxy S21 Ultra, have always had a larger battery than the iPhone. But Apple products turned out to be more economical. So the situation is not new.

The battery capacity of the S21 Ultra is almost one and a half times that of the iPhone 12 Pro Max. Of course, it is not dry numbers that are much more important, but real results.

In real world conditions, the S21 Ultra managed to achieve more than 7 hours of screen time, which is slightly more than the iPhone. And to confirm this result, let’s turn to laboratory tests of batteries (see below)!

♥ BY TOPIC: How to teach iPhone to automatically turn on Power Saving Mode.

Web browsing test (Wi-Fi, brightness 200 nits)

Samsung Galaxy S21 Ultra Apple iPhone 12 Pro Max
Working with the browser (clock) 16 hours 7 minutes 14 hours 6 minutes
Working with a browser with a screen frequency of 120 Hz (hours) 14 hours 43 minutes

In this simplest test of web browsing, the S21 Ultra outperformed the iPhone even when running at 120Hz adaptive frequency. This result is impressive! And the smoother and more enjoyable 120Hz mode is definitely worth recommending, especially with such a long battery life. If you switch to 60Hz, you get a little more runtime. At 60 Hz, the S21 Ultra works for over 16 hours, which is a record for a flagship!

YouTube test

Samsung Galaxy S21 Ultra Apple iPhone 12 Pro Max
Streaming video Youtube 8 hours 52 minutes 8 hours 37 minutes

The second test was watching streaming videos on YouTube, using the same playlist at 1080p video quality. And the S21 Ultra is ahead of the iPhone, albeit this time the gap is not so big. Excellent result for Samsung and its battery.

3D games

Samsung Galaxy S21 Ultra Apple iPhone 12 Pro Max
3D games (hours) 8 hours 40 minutes 8 hours 1 minute
3D games at 120Hz screen frequency (hours) 5 hours 3 minutes

The last test is no less important. The game test is interesting for those who love Call of Duty or Minecraft. In fact, for such users, information about the battery life in such a mode is almost the most necessary. And if the previous two tests load mainly the CPU, then this one loads the GPU. You can evaluate the energy efficiency of the GPU.

Again, the Galaxy S21 at 60Hz will provide a slight extra battery life over the iPhone 12 Pro Max. It’s worth keeping in mind that using 120Hz for gaming drains the battery pretty quickly. It will last almost half as long in this mode. If you want a balance between performance and battery life, then it makes sense to play at 60Hz.

Charge your Samsung Galaxy S21 Ultra and iPhone 12 Pro Max

With the growth of smartphone battery capacity, the issue of battery charging speed becomes relevant.

The iPhone 12 Pro Max requires a 20W adapter to quickly recharge its battery, while the Galaxy S21 Ultra requires a 25W charge. It should be noted that charging adapters are no longer included in both the iPhone and Galaxy.

The iPhone 12 is also the first mainstream phone on the market to ship without a charger, and the S21 Ultra is the first serious Android phone to follow this not-so-pleasant move.

Both premium flagships do not break out of the lead in charging speeds. It takes about an hour and a half to fully charge the S21 Ultra with a 25W power supply, while with an 18/20W power supply, an iPhone will charge in 1 hour and 45 minutes. At a time when some phones charge in less than an hour, and some of them even take half an hour, the speeds shown are too slow.

However, both phones also support wireless charging at up to 15W with a compatible charger (sold separately). The iPhone stands out here with its new MagSafe technology, so the phone can magnetically attach securely to chargers and accessories. It’s a great and handy addition that Galaxy doesn’t have.

MagSafe Magnetic Wireless Charging in iPhone 12 Pro and iPhone 12 Pro Max

What the iPhone lacks is reversible wireless charging. Samsung’s flagship has this option. So you can, for example, place the Galaxy Buds Pro on it and quickly recharge the headset battery, using your Galaxy phone as a kind of wireless power source.

Which microSD to buy: what is the difference between SD, SDHC, SDXC formats and how to choose the right memory card

05/01/2021 by ALOK DAS

Memory cards have become an elegant solution to expand the internal storage of our gadgets. Today, in any electronics and communications store, you can easily purchase a popular microSD card for your phone, camera or tablet. But such a purchase is fraught with some pitfalls. The user may simply overpay or unexpectedly run into problems: the memory may work too slowly or, in fact, be smaller. Below we will tell you about some recommendations that will help you choose and buy a microSD card correctly.

♥ BY TOPIC: The best gadgets for Apple, home, work and leisure with AliExpress (updated daily).

Our detailed video:

In the meantime, there is no need to worry about it. ”

1. SD card compatibility

Micro SD card formats

All microSD cards physically fit into their format slots. However, not all devices work properly at the same time. It turns out that there are four varieties of this format with their own standards. They determine compatibility. Many have heard of the three main microSD formats: SD, SDHC, SDXC (or microSD, microSDHC and microSDXC). Fullsize maps and their scaled-down counterparts work on the same specification. In June 2018, a fourth format, SDUC, was announced. But such cards will become available over time.

Each of these formats belongs to the SD family, but they don’t work the same way. As a result, the formats are not backward compatible. New cards cannot be used with equipment that initially only supported old formats.

What is the difference between microSD, microSDHC, microSDXC and microSDUC formats?

• microSD has a capacity of up to 2GB and can work in any microSD card slot.
• microSDHC has capacities ranging from 2GB to 32GB and will run on hardware that supports SDHC and SDXC.
• microSDXC has capacities ranging from 32GB to 2TB and is only supported on devices running SDXC.
• microSDUC supports cards up to 128 TB, but the device is also required to support this format.

It is not enough to check the compatibility of a particular memory card with the equipment; some other details should also be taken into account.

Capacity and file system

MicroSD card capacityIt turns out that even hardware that supports microSDXC cards is not able to automatically work with all cards of this format. So, for example, Samsung Galaxy S9 officially supports memory cards up to 400 GB. No one guarantees that a 512 GB drive will work correctly on a smartphone. When using a memory card to transfer files from a mobile device to a computer, make sure the PC supports the file system in which the media is formatted. For example, microSDXC cards use the exFAT system by default. Both Windows and macOS have been supporting this file system for quite some time.

Ultra High Speed Support

SDHC and SDXC formats can support the Ultra High Speed (UHS) bus interface, which allows for faster data transfer rates. There are three versions of UHS:

• UHS-I with a bus speed of up to 104 Mbit / s.
• UHS-II with a bus speed of up to 312 Mbit / s.
• UHS-III with a bus speed of up to 624 Mbit / s.

To benefit from the use of high-speed UHS technology, equipment must support it. Memory cards will work in old slots, but at a speed cut down to 25 Mbps. The second and third generation UHS also have an additional row of contacts on the card. They will be read on devices that support the first generation, but also at a reduced speed. And the generation of the interface will be told by the Roman numerals located next to the card logo.

♥ BY TOPIC: 7 iPhone and iPad accessories to have in every car.

2. Speed of microSD card

Determining the speed of a microSD card is even more difficult than decrypting formats and their compatibility. There are at least six ways to show the capabilities of a card, and manufacturers often use all of them at once.

MicroSD card specifications

Speed class

Speed class

This parameter directly shows the minimum write speed to the memory card in megabytes per second. There are four speed classes, defined as follows:

• Class 2: not less than 2 Mbit / s.
• Class 4: not less than 4 Mbit / s.
• Class 6: not less than 6 Mbps.
• Class 10: not less than 10 Mbps.

Displaying the baseline performance of a map helps you understand if it is generally appropriate for a specific task. That’s just about the maximum speed of work, this parameter says nothing. As a result, it is theoretically possible that a Class 2 memory card will be faster than its Class 6 counterpart. But cards of the 10th class should always be faster than their younger counterparts due to the bus speed of 25 Mbit / s compared to 12.5 Mbit / s on the cards of the previous classes.

UHS Speed Class

UHS Speed Class

UHS Speed Indicates the minimum write speed for microSD cards that support UHS-I, II, and III. We distinguish this as a separate category, since some manufacturers write two classes at once on their cards. There are two options for UHS Speed Class:

• U1: write speed is not less than 10 Mbps.
• U3: write speed not less than 30 Mbps.

Performance class by application launch speed

Performance class for the speed of launching applications of microSD cards

This parameter defines the minimum supported write speed of 10 Mbps and the minimum random read and write speed, measured in input / output operations per second (IOPS). This class guarantees the desired level of performance when storing Android applications on a memory card and running programs from it. Two classes are distinguished here:

• A1 with minimum 1500 IOPS random read and 500 IOPS random write.
• A2 with minimum 4000 IOPS random read and 2000 IOPS random write.

This class of performance makes you stand out when planning the installation of Android applications on a microSD card. But it doesn’t have to be A1 or A2 on the media. Some maps without a pointer of this class can work well and even better than marked ones.

Video speed class

In the meantime, there is no need to worry about it. ”

This indicator is responsible for the minimum sequential write speed used when shooting video. And the higher its resolution, the more speed will be required. There are five classes of video recording speed:

• V6 with a minimum write speed of 6 Mbps.
• V10 with a minimum recording speed of 10 Mbps.
• V30 with a minimum recording speed of 30 Mbps.
• V60 with a minimum recording speed of 60 Mbps.
• V90 with a minimum write speed of 90 Mbps.

Rated speed

It makes sense to assume that a higher speed class corresponds to a higher overall performance, while UHS cards turn out to be even faster. And some manufacturers also indicate the maximum speed of their products.

The figures are given in megabytes per second and will allow you to select the fastest cards. But these speeds are obtained from the tests of the manufacturers themselves. Indicators are theoretical, referring to an ideal case. Real performance may be noticeably lower. In practice, external factors that affect read and write speed usually play a role. So, the time for copying files to a computer will be determined by its characteristics, and the USB cable used.

Relative speed

There is another way that manufacturers show the speed of their cards. It has to do with the timing of CDs. Then the unit of measurement of speed was 150 kbit / s. As drives and discs evolved, advertisements included the designations 2x, 8x, 48x, and even 52x. Thus, it was shown how many times the device is faster than the baseline indicator.

Surprisingly, microSD cards also received this mark. When we see a 100x mark on a product, this indicates a speed of 100 × 150 kbps or 15 Mbps. But even these indicators refer to laboratory, not real conditions.

3. Which microSD card to choose for a smartphone, for taking photos and videos

When buying a microSD card, the user usually has future scenarios for using the drive in mind. It is important to choose exactly the solution that will be used in the future. For the consumer, the volume and speed of the memory card are most often important, while record indicators are not required. Top-end high-capacity UHS-II U3 cards will cost you a lot, but you won’t always see the benefits that drive the high price.

If a microSD card is used to store applications on a smartphone, then it is worth paying attention to the performance class in terms of launch speed. But if you plan to shoot 4K video on your phone, then the priority parameters of the media should be memory capacity and recording speed.

Which microSD card to choose for a smartphone for taking photos and videos

The SD Card Association recommends using UHS U3 cards for 4K video recording. And for shooting videos with FullHD resolution, ordinary cards of 10 or even 6 class are quite enough. If the recording speed is too slow, frame drops will occur and audio will be interrupted.

Photographers often prefer to use several smaller cards together on one large card. This minimizes the risk of losing all data in the event of media damage. And when shooting in RAW format, remember the impressive size of the picture – 50 MB or more. In this case, you need a card with U1 or U3 speeds and at least SDHC format.

It is worth recalling that there is no fundamental difference between a full-sized SD card and a microSD card connected via an adapter. If the device only supports a full-size card, then it is quite possible to use an adapter with a microSD card.

4. Counterfeit microSD cards

At first glance, the advice to avoid counterfeiting sounds obvious, but buying non-original memory cards is very easy. An often unknown seller offers a low price for branded memory cards. In this case, we can talk about an increased risk of running into a fake. A few years ago, a SanDisk engineer stated that about a third of all SanDisk cards are actually non-original products. This number has hardly decreased since then.

When purchasing memory cards from an unknown store, it is better to read reviews about it first. Counterfeit microSDs usually correctly show the capacity indicated on the packaging, but in fact they cannot store that amount of data. Free space on the map will run out unexpectedly quickly. You can check the actual drive capacity using the H2testw utility for Windows or F3 for Mac and Linux.

5. Buy microSD from well-known brands

Each of us had flash memory cards that once stopped working for no apparent reason. These drives are generally believed to have high reliability, but their destruction results in the loss of all data stored there. It is for this reason that the purchase of memory cards made by large brands is always preferable to cheap unnamed cards. From a quality product, expect better performance, increased reliability, water resistance, shock resistance and even X-ray protection at airports. Renowned manufacturers often provide a lifetime warranty and access to data recovery software. Such a standard is offered by SanDisk and Lexar.

What’s the ideal microSD card?

Thanks to our advice, you can avoid mistakes when purchasing a memory card. It remains only to figure out which card is needed. Does it require high write speeds and should it be over 400GB? The formed criteria and information on the standards and speeds of microSD cards, indicated above, will allow you to make the right choice.

Car charger for iPhone and gadgets on Android: how to choose + 10 best options

18/06/2020 by ALOK DAS

Buying a charger for a smartphone for a car is not an easy task. Not only that, such a memory device may not fit your gadget and will refuse to charge it – everything may end in a fire or failure of an expensive device!

♥ BY TOPIC: External battery (Verbank) for phone and laptop: 10 best options in 2019.

1. Do not buy a car charger until the end of 2019

If you are “not on fire” – do not rush to purchase. There are three reasons at once:

Ganfast

The new technology, known as gallium nitride transistors (short for GaN or GaNFast) is about to revolutionize the reliability, speed and miniaturization of chargers. In the near future, the cost of traditional chargers is expected (another argument not to rush) and the output of new generation charges. As of the beginning of 2019, manufacturers of such devices do not yet offer GaN solutions – but everything can change in the coming months.

USB IF

If you’re worried that car USB charging will damage your gadgets, wait until the recently announced USB-IF USB Type-C certification program is released. The non-profit organization USB-IF will check the chargers and issue them a certificate of conformity, as a result of which the chances of putting a potential “pest” in the car will decrease dramatically.

Quick charge 4.0

Fourth generation fast charging is even faster than before and supports USB-Power Delivery technology from the same port. True, it will also have to wait – the specifications of Quick Charge 4.0 were published only in February 2019, and the manufacturers have not yet released the corresponding charges.

♥ BY TOPIC: Xiaomi 70mai Air Compressor Lite: high-quality quiet car compressor (pump).

2. Do not buy the “wrong” USB-charger for the car

A small educational program on the topic. There are 4 types of car memory for smartphones:

  • From USB-A to Lightning (iPhone)
  • From USB-A to Micro-USB (older Android devices)
  • From USB-C to USB-C (modern Android devices)
  • Wireless charging for a car (some Android devices and iPhone – starting with iPhone 8 and later).

Here is an image with a USB-C port and outdated Micro-USB:

usb c and micro usb

Here’s what the connector looks like for Apple smartphones:

Apple Lightning Cable

Most users know the difference between USB-C, Lightning, and Micro-USB. True, things get more complicated when you are dealing with USB-C connectors. There are two problems here:

1. The danger of buying poorly made charging and cable;

2. “Get” on the charge, which does not want to work with one or more of your devices. The only way to avoid this is to look for thematic reviews and read reviews.

♥ BY TOPIC: 7 accessories for iPhone and iPad that you need to have in every car.

3. Do Not Buy Dangerous USB-C Charges

Two accessories can explode your smartphone (in the literal sense of the word) – poor-quality adapter cable from USB-C to USB-C and low-quality USB-C charging.

The four rectangular ports in the image below are the good old USB Type-A (USB-A). The two ports at the top are USB-C. USB-A can charge almost anything (except a laptop) if you have the right cable. USB-C is designed primarily to charge USB-C devices. If the USB-C port does not support USB-PD or fast Quick Charge, it will be able to charge other devices only at the maximum power of USB-A (this is about 10 W).

USB-C Charging

Some USB-C cables — and especially A to C adapters — can damage your device. Avoiding fakes is very simple – do not buy dubious decisions for a penny, but give preference to products from well-known and trusted brands. Here again, it’s worth looking at the reviews and experiences of other people.

When choosing, it is also worth remembering that USB cables have a graduation in current strength. A good cable has an indicator of 2.0, a top one – 2.4.

♥ BY TOPIC: From 12 V we make 220 volts in a car, or how to charge a laptop in a car (and not only).

4. Do not buy wireless charging with the wrong standard.

Fast charging technology allows you to charge your iPhone, Samsung and other smartphones faster than usual. To do this, of course, you need a special charger – which, again, of course, is sold separately.

And here the problems begin.

Now on the market there are two incompatible technologies: USB-C Power Delivery and Quick Charge from Qualcomm.

iPhone (starting with iPhone 8 and later), LG, and the Pixel Google smartphone use Power Delivery. Most other Android smartphones, led by Samsung, prefer Quick Charge.

However, the incompatibility of the two standards will soon be a thing of the past – compatibility with USB-Power Delivery has already been announced in Quick Charge 4.0. This means that the new memory will be able to combine both standards and not damage your smartphone.

Comparison of MacBook Air 2020 and Macbook Pro 2020: which is better to choose and buy?

08/05/2020 by ALOK DAS

If you are anxious to buy a new MacBook, now is the best time. Over the past six months, every Apple-made laptop has undergone significant modernization, so if you do not take into account the technical specifications of possible autumn releases, Apple products for the remainder of 2020 will be represented by three models: MacBook Air, 13-inch MacBook Pro and 16-inch MacBook Pro

MacBook Air 2020 and Macbook Pro 2020 Design

On its website, Apple makes clear that the 13-inch 2020 MacBook Pro is almost identical to the previous model and is very close to the MacBook Air. According to Apple specs, they both have a case size of 30.31 by 21.24 centimeters, but the MacBook Pro has a uniform thickness of 1.56 centimeters, while the MacBook Air has a thickness of only 0.41 cm in the thinnest place and 1. 61 cm in the thickest.

When you open the devices, they are also very similar. Both laptops have fairly large frames around the screen with a name on the bottom edge. A pair of vertical speakers is located on the sides of the keyboard, and underneath is a giant Force Touch trackpad.

Display MacBook Air 2020 and Macbook Pro 2020

As in previous generations, the MacBook Air and the 13-inch MacBook Pro have the same 13.3-inch Retina display with the same 2560 × 1600 resolution and built-in True Tone technology. Display specifications differ in brightness (Pro’s 500 nits are slightly brighter compared to Air’s 400 nits) and color gamut (Pro has an expanded P3 color gamut, while Air supports sRGB), but these are relatively small differences.

Display MacBook Pro 2020

With a professional look, you can see more saturated colors when viewing images on the MacBook Pro, but the main part of the specification assumes that the displays of the two models are very similar.

What to choose: Most people will have a very pretty narrower color scheme for the MacBook Air. Professionals who want to work with design or video will want to buy a MacBook Pro.

MacBook Air 2020 and Macbook Pro 2020 Keyboard

With the release of the 13-inch MacBook Pro, Apple officially abandoned the unsuccessful butterfly keyboard, so both laptops come with the same backlit Magic Keyboard and 65 + Touch Bar (78 on Air) keys, including four arrow keys in inverted letter “T”.

Experience on the new MacBook with such a keyboard shows that the improvement has become really significant.

The difference between the MacBook Pro and MacBook Air is in a number of function keys. While both laptops have a touch ID sensor in the far right, Air has a standard set of keys, starting with ESC, followed by keys from F1 to F12. And the Pro has an ESC, behind which is a small horizontal screen called the Touch Bar. It is designed to increase efficiency and varies depending on the application you use and can be configured using constant keyboard shortcuts, including outdated ones.

What to choose: You probably shouldn’t make a purchasing decision based on the Touch Bar. People have loved this element over the years of use, but ultimately, it’s just a matter of convenience. The standard Air function keys are also suitable for many people.

Both entry-level models, the 13-inch MacBook Pro and MacBook Air have a 3.5mm headphone jack and a couple of Thunderbolt 3 USB-C ports, but not every laptop can work with the stunning Apple Pro XDR monitor.

If this is not a problem for the MacBook Air, then the MacBook Pro should have a tenth generation Core i5 / i7 processor, while the eighth generation Core i5 is installed in the basic configuration.

Since you also need USB-C to charge, two ports are an essential minimum for any task. However, if you spend a little more, you can double the number of USB-C ports to four on MacBook Pro models costing from 173,990 rubles or more.

What to choose: For several weeks, the MacBook Air actually had a better I / O system than the 13-inch MacBook Pro, but now they are basically equal. If you’re willing to spend $ 500 just to get extra USB-C ports, that’s your right. For top models, this can be a good bonus.

Processor and Graphics MacBook Air 2020 and Macbook Pro 2020

MacBook Air 2020 Performance

MacBook Pro traditionally differs from MacBook Air in speed, but not all configurations satisfy this rule. Here are the basic options Apple offers:

Macbook air

  • Dual-core Intel Core i3 processor (10th generation) with a frequency of 1.1 GHz;
  • Quad-core Intel Core i5 processor (10th generation) with a frequency of 1.1 GHz.

thirteen-inch MacBook Pro (2 the port Thunderbolt)

Quad-core Intel Core i5 1.4 GHz (8th generation).

thirteen-inch MacBook Pro (4 the port Thunderbolt)

Quad-Core Intel Core i5 2.0 GHz (10th Generation).

There are a few things worth paying attention to. Despite the fact that the 13-inch entry-level MacBook Pro processors have higher clock speeds and twice as many cores, they are not much faster than the MacBook Air chips. In the 2019 Geekbench 5 model tests, these two machines are very similar: the MacBook Air defeats the Pro in single-core tasks, and the Pro outperforms Air in multi-core tasks. As a result, you can hardly detect the difference in performance between the two laptops. Nevertheless, you will see a significant increase in speed on the top configurations of the MacBook Pro.

When it comes to graphics, the MacBook Air and the high-end MacBook Pro use Intel Iris Plus integrated graphics, which is faster than the Intel Iris Plus Graphics 645 in the low-cost MacBook Pros.

What to choose: if performance matters, it makes sense to switch to a 10th generation quad-core processor with a frequency of 2.0 GHz.

Storage, battery and RAM

Recall again that Apple shares the classes of laptops. The two younger models MacBook Pro and MacBook Air have the same amount of RAM and storage, while the more expensive MacBook Pro gets them twice as much:

  • MacBook Air: 8 GB / 16 GB of memory, 256 GB / 512 GB / 1 TB / 2 TB SSD;
  • MacBook Pro (2 Thunderbolt Ports): 8 GB / 16 GB, 256 GB / 512 GB / 1 TB / 2 TB SSD;
  • MacBook Pro (4 Thunderbolt Ports): 16 GB / 32 GB memory, 512 GB / 1 TB / 2 TB / 4 TB SSD.

Despite the fact that you get the same amount of RAM, Apple has equipped the MacBook Air with LPDDR4X memory with a frequency of 3733 MHz, while younger computers MacBook Pro slower memory LPDDR3 with a frequency of 2133 MHz. If you are used to keeping a lot of open applications, then the switching speed between them will be noticeable.

Battery life is very similar for both models. Apple claims that the MacBook Air has a slightly longer battery life than the Pro – up to 11 hours of use on the Internet and 12 hours of movie playback in the Apple TV app versus 10 hours.

What to choose: There are a lot of storage options for all these models, RAM should be enough. When choosing, make a decision based on your real needs. A 256 GB SSD will suffice for most people.

  • Macbook pro: 139,990 rubles (8th generation quad-core Core i5 with a clock frequency of 1.4 GHz, 512 GB SSD, 8 GB of RAM, two Thunderbolt ports);
  • Macbook pro: 173,990 rubles (10th generation quad-core Core i5 with a clock frequency of 2 GHz, 512 GB SSD, 16 GB RAM, four Thunderbolt ports);
  • Macbook pro: 193,990 rubles (10th generation quad-core Core i5 with a clock frequency of 2 GHz, 1 TB SSD, 16 GB RAM, four Thunderbolt ports).

Pricing MacBook Pro 13 2020

Pricing MacBook Pro 13 2020

What to choose: If you need speed and are looking for a ready-made configuration, consider older MacBook Pro models. If you do not want to spend so much, then there is the older model of the MacBook Air. The basic Air model is not so bad, but additional memory and a faster processor cost 30 thousand rubles requested.

What to choose?

The choice of laptops is based on the supposed scope of the user. If most of the time you have to deal with browsing web pages, social networks and videos, as well as working with text and the simplest editing of photos and videos, even the cheapest MacBook Air is enough for you. If the owner of the laptop plans to work on more voluminous projects – editing photos, audio, video, programming, we recommend that you consider buying a MacBook Pro or invest additional funds in RAM. No matter which model you buy, doubling RAM is a smart investment.

25/02/2020 by ALOK DAS

Burst shooting (Burst Mode) – a special camera mode on iOS devices, when it takes 10 shots per second in a split second. This is a great way to shoot a dynamic scene – because this way you have a much better chance of getting a high-quality image.

♥ BY TOPIC: How to hide photos or videos on iPhone or iPad.

Before the release of the iPhone 11 on Apple smartphones, it was easy to take a series of photos. To do this, you just had to hold down the shutter button in the Camera application.

Serial photos allow you to effectively capture some action, and in a group picture you can get the perfect scene when everyone has their eyes open and there is no grimace. However, a similar action on the iPhone 11 – pressing and holding the shutter button, leads to the shooting of a short QuickTake video. Fortunately, the burst mode is still here. He just hid behind a little-known gesture.

Like many other features in iOS, the actions of the shutter button are now tied to gestures. Just by clicking on it, you can get a photo of what is expected. But pressing and holding this button allows you to shoot a video as long as a finger remains on it. Similarly, when recording a voice message in the application “Messages“.

But there is something else. If you press and hold the button, and then move it to the right, you can instantly switch to video recording.

In turn, the gesture of pressing and moving the shutter button to the left activates burst shooting as long as you hold your finger. Of course, there is a risk that a QuickTake video will be shot instead. The problem is adding too many gestures to simple controls. But it’s a pleasant moment that the burst meter displays the number of shots taken right inside the shutter button.

It seems that Apple decided to focus on the new great camcorder in the iPhone 11, but for quick access to it, you still have to learn an unobvious gesture. And such a change is changing the system of working with gestures for those who are already used to using serial shooting.
