Previously, only not so successful and forgotten films were released in this format, like Quirino Cristiani’s The Apostle.

Disney managed to perform a real technological miracle by doubling the number of hand-drawn frames shown per unit of time. Previously, besides, no one believed that it would be possible to rive the attention of children to the cartoon for a long hour and a half. Disney took a risk and invested one and a half million dollars in this project. “Snow White” paid off well, besides receiving an “Oscar” with the original wording: “For the film “Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs”, which captivated millions of viewers and opened up new vistas for the development of animated films.” During the presentation, the organizers of the award showed wit by handing Walt Disney, along with a large statuette, also seven small ones.

Who Framed Roger Rabbit

The protagonist of this unusual project is Detective Eddie Valiant. He has reason to hate the toons that inhabit Toontown and everything connected with them. But it is Valiant who has to investigate the mysterious murder, and at the same time protect the main suspect – Roger Rabbit. It’s hard to call a full-fledged cartoon a tape – both animated characters and ordinary real actors coexist in it. Nevertheless, the film became a landmark, because by the time it appeared, American animation was going through difficult times. And the film by Robert Zemeckis allowed to revive interest in cartoons, which affected the growth in the number of feature-length animated works.

The creator’s film cost a lot, even by modern standards – $ 70 million. In addition, it was worth a lot of difficulties to negotiate with different studios, whose classic heroes ended up in the world of Roger Rabbit. But the audience was able to meet the characters of Disney, Paramount, Warner Bros, MGM and Universal. Huge investments quickly paid off, and the film itself was nominated for an Oscar in six categories at once. The tape received three prizes, and the creators themselves also received a special award for the development of animation.

Yes, and the authors have sharply moved away from classic Disney stories and princesses, songs and dances. As a result, Toy Story is interesting to watch not only for children, but also for adults. Director John Lasseter won a special Oscar for making the first feature-length computer-animated film in history.

Spirited Away

But on the way, the family got lost, finding themselves in a strange and empty city. The attention of tired adults was attracted by a table filled with food. But as soon as they tasted the food, Chihiro’s parents turned into pigs – the result of the witchcraft of the evil Yubaba. The poor girl is forced to become a witch’s servant in order to somehow free her family.

And although at this time computer animation is actively gaining ground, the classic hand-drawn cartoon of the famous Hayao Miyazaki also managed to gain popularity. First, the story of Chihiro conquered Japan, and then the whole world. In the fight for the “Oscar” “Spirited Away” bypassed such hits as “Lilo and Stitch” and “Ice Age”.

When working on this cartoon, Pixar animators showed special care. They personally went diving and explored the Great Barrier Reef. The study of the physiology of fish was helped by attending courses of ichthyologists. Not without artistic embellishments, nevertheless, the created underwater world is very believable.

In the fight for the Oscars, Pixar had no obvious competitors that year, and the favorite won. Since that year, most of the film awards in this category have taken Disney from Pixar, occasionally only allowing lesser-known competitors to prove themselves.

Especially for this purpose, the AntiGryz company was created, which provides farmers with the protection of their candidates from rodents. But the heroes can no longer help against the mutant Were-Rabbit. As a result, the desperate organizers offer a bonus to those who catch the villain.

English director Nick Park has won two Oscars for his short films In the Animal World and The Wrong Pants. The same couple, Wallace and Gromit, took part in the latter. And “The Curse of the Were-Rabbit” eventually became the second puppet cartoon in history in terms of collected box office puppet cartoons, losing to another creation of the Park – “Chicken Run”. This tape was created for 5 whole years and required 2.8 tons of plasticine. In the fight for the prize, Park’s cartoon lost to Miyazaki’s Howl’s Moving Castle and Tim Burton’s Corpse Bride.

Penguins are quite attractive characters for animators. This cartoon is about a tribe of imperial birds. The talents of their singing allowed them to find a mate among their fellow tribesmen. But little Mumble seemed completely unpromising in this field, but he danced incomparably. It is not surprising that the young penguin became an outcast among his relatives. Mumble had to prove all the benefits of his non-standard talent.

It’s a Warner Bros. creation. originally tried to get away from the song-and-dance cartoon template. The result was a whole musical. Most of the dance scenes were rendered using motion capture technology from real people. The songs were performed by such professionals as Hugh Jackman and Nicole Kidman. It is no coincidence that fate brought the heroes together – they can help each other.

The animators in this film have created an excellent atmosphere that absorbs the viewer. Not only the streets of Paris were studied, but also its sewers. Professional chef Thomas Keller took part in the work on Ratatouille. On the other hand, rat behavior experts were also involved, thanks to which in the cartoon all Remy’s movements look so believable.

The main competitor of “Ratatouille” was the cartoon “Catch the wave”, again with penguin characters, as in the past year. Another competitor was the work of Marzhan Satrapi “Persepolis” about the events of the Islamic revolution in Iran. But the story of the charming little rat simply fascinated everyone.

The Earth turned out to be inhabited only by scavenger robots. 700 years have passed, and only a small WALL-E turned out to be whole. He managed to cultivate emotions in himself, and when he met the research robot EVE, he fell in love with her.

Ever since the mid-90s, scriptwriters have been thinking about implementing such an idea. During this time, the authors realized their plan, and a detailed study of landfills and garbage helped them in this. Such knowledge made it possible to create a realistic world with waste. WALL E turned out to be an unusual cartoon. It touches upon global issues of ecology and the relationship of mankind to garbage.

This subtext has not gone unnoticed by academics. In addition to the well-deserved “Oscar” in the nomination for the best animated film, “WALL E” was also nominated in the category unusual for cartoons “Best Original Screenplay”.

And the cartoon is dedicated to a simple idea – you can dream and seek adventure, regardless of age.

In the fight for the Oscars, the film “Up” outperformed strong competitors: “Fantastic Mr. Fox” by Wes Anderson, “Coraline in the Land of Nightmares” and the classically drawn “Princess and the Frog”. The cowboy has to go to save his friends, to take them to kindergarten and find new loving owners there.

Usually, animation franchises try not to have such big pauses between parts. Yet the second part of “Toy Story” came out 10 years before the third. But in this case, a simple one turned out to be useful. The authors found new, successful topics. The third part of the story is devoted to how children grow up and their guardians reflect. It is no coincidence that this cartoon is especially noted by adults.

That year, The Great Escape also not only took “its” Oscar unconditionally, but was also nominated for the title of best film. But the drama “The King’s Speech” took the award.

Если в других фильмах персонажи ходят в одних и тех же нарядах, то Мерида может похвастать перед зрителями гардеробом из пяти платьев, а ее отец Фергус вообще имеет девять нарядов. В мультфильме встречается несколько шотландских кланов, каждому из них аниматоры придумали свой, уникальный узор.

В борьбу за «Оскар» вместе с «Храброй сердцем» вступили диснеевский «Ральф» и работа Тима Бёртона, «Франкенвини». Академикам по душе пришлась история храброй принцессы.

В следующем году приз снова достался истории про принцессу. Disney долгое время пытался переосмыслить классическую «Снежную королеву» Ганса Христиана Андерсена. Но как сделать положительным главный персонаж? Ответом стало «Холодное сердце» и история принцессы Эльзы.

С детства девушка могла управлять холодом, однако, в отличие от Снежной королевы, скрывала свои таланты из опасения навредить кому-нибудь. Поссорившись с сестрой Анной, Эльза в гневе чуть было не заморозила целое королевство. Испугавшись своих возможностей, девушка уединилась в ледяном замке. Анна решила вернуть сестру обратно, в ее приключении принцессу будут сопровождать снеговик Кристофф и олень Свен.

В этой истории не нашлось место традиционной романтической линии, на первый план выходят отношения сестер. Вот почему «Холодное сердце» так нравится девочкам. А чтобы сестры оказались разными, над каждой из них работала своя команда аниматоров. Характеры у Эльзы и Анны действительно отличаются.

Мультфильм стал громким хитом, собрав в прокате более миллиарда долларов. Никто не сомневался в том, кому достанется «Оскар», хотя за него поборолся еще и Миядзаки со своим «Ветер крепчает».

Сан-Франсокио является городом будущего, где живут гении, подобные юному Хиро Хамада. Больше всего мальчик любит роботы и сражения между ними. Талантливого подростка даже приглашают в университет, вот только его жизнь коренным образом меняется и заставляет выступить, ни много ни мало, защитником города.

Это далеко не самый известный комикс Marvel, экранизированный Disney, но компания пошла на риск. Было даже объявлено, что «Город героев» в общую киновселенную не попадет. Зато, по сложившейся традиции, в сцене после титров показался сам Стэн Ли.

Несмотря на малоизвестную основу, проект оказался масштабным. В качестве основы города будущего был взят Сан-Франциско, что понятно и из названия. А все городские карты стали основой для создания места действия. Уникальных же персонажей в мультфильме оказалось целых 700!

Масштабность проекта трудно было не заметить. Продолжение истории «Как приручить дракона» и очередной проект японской студии Гибли не могли соперничать с «Городом героев».

Ежедневно цветные герои помогают девочке справляться с ее, пока еще пустяковыми проблемами. Но когда Райли переезжает жить в крупный город, разлад начинается еще и в ее голове.

Авторы «Головоломки» решили нестандартным образом показать то, что происходит с нашими чувствами. Каждое из них получила оригинальную форму. Например, Радость напоминает звезду, Брезгливость – брокколи, а Печаль – слезу. В борьбе за «Оскар» у «Головоломки» нашелся серьезный конкурент – мрачный «Аномализ» Чарли Кауфмана. Но академики ожидаемо выбрали яркие чувства, да и бренд Pixar сам по себе уже гарантирует определенный уровень.

Тем не менее зайчиха приступает к расследования неожиданно оказавшегося серьезным заговором преступления, а ее напарником случайно становится лис-жулик Ник Уайлд.

Для Dinsey попытка очеловечить зверей не такой уж и эксперимент, можно вспомнить хотя бы «Робин Гуда» и «Цыпленка Цыпу». Населенный зверьми город стал местом, где закручивается небанальная детективная история. К тому же с помощью мультфильма создатели раскрывают совсем не детские темы – коррупцию, сегрегацию, отношения в трудовом коллективе.

Именно поэтому на «Зверополис» идут и взрослые. Только в России мультфильм собрал более 2 миллиардов рублей. Основным конкурентом ленты стала «Моана», тоже от Disney.

Рассказать в мультфильме о смерти? Очень смелая попытка! К счастью, в Мексике есть самый настоящий культ, который и помог обеспечить основу этой истории. Ее главный герой, Мигель, мечтает о карьере музыканта, что в его семье явно не приветствуется. Неожиданно мальчик узнает о своей таинственной связи с покойным кумиром-певцом. Мигель отправляется в страну мертвых, чтобы лично познакомиться со знаменитостью. Духи умерших предков не оставят мальчика в этом приключении.

Аниматоры Pixar получили задачу рассказать о мире мертвых. Вызов принят! И пусть скелеты не совсем анатомичны, зато так они кажутся более живыми и интересными. Аниматорам даже пришлось заново создать алгоритм прорисовки одежды, ведь на костях она должна смотреться иначе, чем на обычном теле человека.

Но даже не техническая реализация обеспечила мультфильму успех. Куда интереснее сам сюжет. В детскую историю удалось вложить такие важные темы, как прощание с близкими и смерть. Мультфильм воспринимается очень эмоционально и взрослыми, многие, не скрывая слез, плачут. В том году за приз боролся необычный мультфильм «Ван Гог. С любовью, Винсент», полностью нарисованный масляными красками, но перед чувствами «Тайны Коко» устоять было невозможно.

Школьник Майлз Моралес решает продолжить благое дело и становится на защиту родного города. А в борьбе с очень уж сильным злом подростку помогут Человеки-пауки из параллельных миров. Ну и что, что новые друзья очень уж странные!

Впервые с 2011 года череда побед Disney и Pixar была прервана творением Sony Pictures. Надо сказать, что «Оскар» Человек-паук получил заслуженно. Сюжет на первый взгляд кажется банальным, но мультфильм был создан по новейшей технологии, которая позволила комиксам ожить. А просмотр фильма в 3D максимально погрузил зрителей в происходящее на экране. Да и смотрелось все это динамично, с немалой долей юмора. Авторы не побоялись подшутить над классическими штампами фильмов про супергеров, которых очень уж много стало на киноэкранах.
