How to add, remove and reorder application shortcuts in Dock on iPad
The Dock on the iPad houses your favorite applications, allowing you to launch them with one touch. This solution is ideal for applications that you use on a regular basis: messages, mail or calendar. To get started, think about what programs you run every day for their subsequent placement in the Dock.
- For additions applications in the Dock, press and hold the program shortcut until it sways. Then drag to the Dock and release.
- To remove shortcut, press and hold the shortcut of the program until it sways. Then drag it from the Dock.
- To reorder applications in the Dock, press and hold the program shortcut until it sways. Then drag the shortcuts to the necessary places in the Dock-panel.
Remember that when you press and hold an application shortcut, you will first see a pop-up context menu. To use any of the above actions, just keep holding the shortcut and this menu will disappear. The icon itself will sway. Now you can already move it.
If you prefer to use the popup menu, just select Reorder Applications, and then move the shortcuts to or from the iPad dock or to another location.

How to create a folder in the Dock on iPad
Another useful feature of the iPad dock is that you can add folders to it. Therefore, if you already have a folder on the screen containing, for example, office applications, social networking clients or games, you can also move them to the Dock. To add, delete, or move folders in the dock, simply use the methods described above.
If you have never previously created a folder on an iPad, then this is very simple. Click and hold a shortcut and drag it directly to another application.
When a small window appears with both applications, release.
You can then give your folder a new name if you do not like the default value.

Show or hide recent or suggested apps in Dock
On the right side of the Dock are recently used applications.
It is quite convenient to quickly return to them. But if the shortcuts bother you, then this feature may be disabled.
Go to Settings → Home screen and dock and deactivate the switch “Show featured and latest apps in the dock“.
After you do this, only applications you manually placed for quick launch will remain in the Dock.

How to open dock in active application
You can call Dock from any application. If desired, up to 13 applications are placed on it, and on the right side of the panel a place is reserved for three recently opened programs. The latter function allows you to quickly navigate between two or three applications that you need most often, this is a kind of tab in the browser. In addition, there is synchronization with Handoff, so that iOS will display the last three applications that you used, for example, on the iPhone. As a result, you can easily continue on the iPad what you started on the tablet.
When you open the application, the Dock automatically hides, giving you the opportunity to work in full screen. But you can see the dock again by swiping up from the bottom of the screen.
Dock will appear on the screen, while not interfering with your current work. If you continue to pull up, you will be taken to the multitasking screen – all recently opened applications, Dock and Control Center (on the right side) are displayed there. Another way to call the Dock is to double-click the Home button – this will bring you to the multitasking menu, where, as we know, there is also a Dock.
This technique is very convenient for hosting applications in split view mode or using Slide Over.

How Slide Over and Split View work with Dock on iPad
The Dock also allows quick access to the split screen. This is all the more important, since in iPadOS to launch two applications at the same time, you need to open the first program, call the Dock, find the application on it and drag it to the display. If you drag left or right, the display will split into two parts, if you drag the icon closer to the left or right corner, the familiar Split View will open, which we have known since iOS 9.

How to call the application context menu in the dock on the iPad
Applications hosted in the Dock support a context menu. The function works on all iPads with installed iOS 11 and newer. The appropriate set of additional actions is offered only by those applications that are provided by the developer. To go to the menu “as with the right mouse button”, just press and hold your finger on the icon.
For example, a standard application Files displays a list of recently opened files. From there, they can be opened or dragged to the main screen.
Dock in Dark Mode
If you want to use “Dark mode” on your iPad, this will automatically apply to the dock, whose background darkens. You can enable “Dark mode” on the tablet with a few taps using “Command centre”.
Swipe down from the upper right corner to open “Command centre”.
Press and hold the icon. “Brightness” and select “Dark mode”.
You can disable it in the same quick way.
