The macOS system file manager – aka Finder – works without problems 99% of the time. But sometimes (very, very rarely) it “freezes”, sometimes it needs to be rebooted for certain changes to take effect. So the restart skill Finder useful to everyone. There are several ways to do this.

How to restart Finder on Mac using an icon
one. Press the button on the keyboard Option (Alt).
2. Click on Finder icon in the Dock with the right mouse button.
3. Select an item Restart.

How to Restart Finder on Mac Using the Apple Menu ()
one. When the window is active Finder click on apple menu ( in the upper left part of the screen) and hold down the button on the keyboard ⇧Shift.
2. Select an item Force Quit Finder.
Alternatively, you can click on Force Quit (press ⇧Shift not needed), in the list of programs that appears, select Finder and press the button Restart.

How to Restart Finder on Mac by Invoking a Force Quit Window
1. Press the keyboard shortcut Option (Alt) + ⌘Cmd + Esc.
2. In the window that appears, select Finder and press the button Restart.

How to restart Finder on Mac using Terminal
one. Open the program Terminal (Launchpad → Other → Terminal).
2. At the command line, type killall finder. Press key return (Enter).
