Sometimes you want to share a video with your friends, but the accompanying audio track will either distract or possibly create privacy concerns. Fortunately, there is a quick way to remove audio from a video using the Photos app on iPhone and iPad. Here’s how to do it.

How to remove audio from a video on an iPhone or iPad
1. Open the app “Photo” on your iPhone or iPad. In section “Photos” find the video you want to mute and tap its thumbnail.
2. With the video open, tap “Edit” in the upper right corner of the screen.
3. If sound is present, a yellow speaker icon will appear in the upper left corner of the screen. Tap it to mute the sound.
Unlike other speaker icons in iOS and iPadOS, this isn’t just a mute button. Clicking on the yellow speaker removes the audio track from the video itself, so the video will be muted when you share it.
If video is muted, the speaker icon will turn gray with a diagonal line across it.
Click on “Done”to save your changes to the video.
After you mute a video, you will see a shaded speaker icon in the Photos app toolbar when you watch the video. This means that the video has no audio component.
If the icon in this place is represented by a crossed-out speaker, it may mean that your phone is simply muted. Turn it on and make sure the speaker icon is still completely grayed out before sharing the video.
Now you can share this video and be sure that there will be no sound when playing.

How to recover deleted audio on video
The Photos app saves the original videos and photos that you edit for possible undo.
If suddenly after publishing you need to cancel the removal of sound on a video, open the application “Photo” and find the video you want to fix. Click on “Edit” in the corner of the screen, then click on the crossed-out speaker icon in the upper left corner or the button “Return” in the lower right corner. The audio for that particular video will be restored.
