The .pdf format is ideal for accurately conveying textual information, including formatting and other elements. Another obvious plus of PDF is document password protection. But there is one minus – sometimes files with a “weight” of 200 KB when converted to this format grow to 1.2 MB, and this is not always convenient when transferring.
Mas owners can solve this problem even using standard means of the macOS operating system.

How to reduce (compress) the size of a PDF file in MacOS Viewer
1. Open the PDF in the application Viewwhose size you want to reduce.
2. In the menu bar at the top, select File → Export.
3. In the window that opens, click on the drop-down menu opposite the inscription Quartz Filter and select Reduce file size.
4. Click Save.
Next, a copy of the selected file with a reduced size will be created.
How well does the Quartz filter compress the image? In a test example, a file with page scans in A4 format of 6 MB in size was compressed to 800 kb (with inevitable, but not fatal quality losses). In general, the compression ratio here depends on the source – if it was a document converted from Word to PDF, its size will decrease by 10 times.
If the quality of the image obtained after filtering does not suit you, it makes sense a more powerful PDF editor, for example PDF Expert, which, among other things, has tools for compressing the file. But, again, in general, for most operations of this kind, the Quartz filter is quite enough.
