Many readers will probably remember the times when floppy drives, dot-matrix printers, dial-up modems and other peripheral devices that emit a furious mixture of squeaks, clicks and buzzes while working were still relevant. Perhaps, it will also be interesting for many to look at the “academic” performance of popular melodies by these devices.

Winchesters, scanners, printers and other famous … musicians
This “hit parade” deserves the attention not only of lovers of the old “iron”, but also of everyone who is not alien to fantasy, invention and even simple curiosity. Ladies and gentlemen, welcome – Computer Museum Orchestra.
1. “The Imperial March” on floppy drives
If you were asked: “What tune is ideal for playing on a stepper motor?”, It is quite possible that you would also have come up with the legendary tune from the equally legendary saga of George Lucas “Star Wars”.
At least, the Polish student Pavel Zalizniak and other “hard-musicians” liked this idea. The MIDI file with the “Imperial March” is converted through the microcontroller and transmitted to the device’s electric motor in the form of pulses.

2. Ghost floppers
That’s how inventor George Whiteside called his “remix” of Johann Sebastian Bach’s “Toccata and Fugue in D Minor” performed by a quartet of 3- and 5-inch floppy drives. A remarkable feature of this composition is that the drives are located at the places intended for them in the computer case and work from the “native” power supply.

4. “What is Love” performed by the orchestra of floppy drives
Few people now remember such an artist as Haddaway, but the melody associated with the unique Jim Carrey is clearly heard by everyone. However, for the video blogger MrSolidSnake745, this track is just another test of the pen – the author constantly pleases his YouTube subscribers with new compositions created by their own order.

5. And again, the Imperial March
This time, the HP ScanJet scanner acts as a soloist, the “musicality” of which was initially envisaged by the developers – the Hewlett-Packard device’s software code contains a PLAY TUNE command handler that allows creating such compositions.

6. The melody from the game “Mario Bros.” on a CNC machine
If in the case of components for a computer, music playback by electric motors still fits into the capacity of the brain, not burdened with technical education, then the colors are completely thickened – the next video demonstrates the musical abilities of a CNC machine.

7. The Imperial March for Nikola Tesla
Further more – the author of the next video used the Tesla coil as a musical instrument, adding visual effects to his creation. Whatever you say, it just looks amazing.

8. “House of the rising sun”
This composition (The House Of The Rising Sun) is a striking example of poor American folklore, however, it is better known in the performance of the once popular band The Animals. The “remix” performed by the office equipment duet also gained some fame, in which the HP Scanjet 3P scanner played the main violin. An old Winchester performed as a bass guitar and drums.

Closing the “hit parade” is the composition of Scottish student James Houston, which he recorded for the remix contest for Nude songs by Radioheads. The musicians were 10 hard drives (vocals and effects), an old ZX Spectrum computer (guitars), an Epson LX-86 “needle” printer (drums), and HP Scanjet, a recognized “musician”, this time modified 4c (bass).
The video begins with 70 seconds of noise loading the program from the film, after which the remix itself sounds.
