Samsung Galaxy Note10 Lite review: for prudent fans of the line

This year, Samsung decided to please not only the “traditional” flagship smartphones and a large selection of more affordable A-line models. Most recently, the company introduced to the public a couple of “lightweight” flagships Samsung Galaxy Note 10 Lite and Galaxy S10 Lite, which offer some interesting flagship chips, but for more affordable money. Samsung Galaxy Note 10 Lite is the youngest model from the current Note, which retained the main features of the line: S Pen and a large display. Samsung Galaxy Note10 + and Galaxy Note10 have already been in our edition, but today we’ll figure out how we saved on the “lite” version and how interesting it is.

What is it?

Samsung Galaxy Note10 Lite is an Android smartphone with a 6.7-inch Super AMOLED display, an Samsung Exynos 9810 octa-core processor, 6 GB of RAM, a triple main camera, an S Pen stylus and a large battery.

How is it interesting and how does it differ from the flagship Galaxy Note10?

Samsung Galaxy Note10 Lite review: for prudent fans of the line-2

In fact, the Samsung Galaxy Note10 Lite is really related to the flagships of its line only Note in the model name and the presence of the S Pen, otherwise smartphones differ very significantly. The S Pen is a little simpler: the pressure is recognized, there are functions of the remote control, but there is no gesture recognition. Instead of the curved Dynamic AMOLED, the smartphone has a Super AMOLED flat screen with a diagonal of 6.7 inches and a resolution of 2400 × 1080, but the round cutout for the front camera and the fingerprint scanner under the screen remained in the same places. Flagship Note10 / 10 + received a top processor Exynos 9825, the hero of this review is equipped with an Exynos 9810 processor, which was used in last year’s flagship Galaxy S9 / S9 + and Note9. RAM – 6 GB, built-in – 128 GB, there is a slot for MicroSD (it is in the Galaxy Note10 +, but not in Note10). What can be an extremely pleasant bonus of the novelty is that there is a standard 3.5 mm headphone jack, which all Samsung flagships have lost. The cameras are simpler, although they are also very interesting and boast a full gentlemanly set of modern features. The main camera is triple, includes three 12 MP modules: the main one with f / 1.7, 1 / 2.55 “aperture, 1.4µm, Dual Pixel PDAF and optical stabilization, telephoto: 2x zoom, f / 2.4, 1 / 3.6”, 1.0µm, PDAF, also with OIS and ultra-wide f / 2.2. The front camera is 32 MP, f / 2.2. The smartphone is powered by a large 4500 mAh battery with support for fast charging. There is no wireless charging, as well as moisture protection. They decided to make the back cover of the smartphone plastic.

What does the Samsung Galaxy Note10 Lite look like?

Samsung Galaxy Note10 Lite review: for prudent line-3 fans

Externally, the Samsung Galaxy Note10 Lite is significantly different from its older brothers: in addition to other materials and a “flat” screen, the smartphone received a more streamlined shape without chopped upper and lower ends. Galaxy Note10 Lite looks modern, but not unique. This is a typical large smartphone with a large display: the frames are small and the protective glass is rounded off around the perimeter. At the top of the screen in the middle is the “hole” of the front camera, above which is the earpiece. There is no notification indicator, but Always on Display will quite cope with this task.

The frame is made of metal, which adds rigidity to the structure. It is painted with glossy paint in the color of the case and has a streamlined shape. Unlike older Note, the power and volume buttons are placed more familiarly on the right side.

The tray migrated from the upper end to the left side.

It is hybrid, you can install either two SIM cards, or add memory with a MicroSD card, sacrificing a second SIM card (if you use it).

At the top end of the interesting, there was only an additional microphone:

Below, there’s a lot of interesting things: the S Pen stylus, earpiece microphone, external speaker, USB Type-C connector and a standard 3.5 mm headphone jack:

There are no innovations in the design of the S Pen: it is equipped with a single mechanical button, and inside there is a Bluetooth module and a battery that charges while the stylus is in the smartphone:

The back cover is made of plastic, which in itself is not critical. But small scratches will cover faster than glass. So the bumper clearly does not hurt. We had a black version, there are still red and pearlescent.

The main triple chamber was placed in a black rectangle with rounded corners. The design resembles the Google Pixel 4 or the iPhone 11 line, but in the Galaxy Note10 Lite it practically does not stick out and looks neater than the above models. In all color options, the camera unit is black and in the case of a black case, it is almost not evident.

There is only one complaint regarding the assembly and appearance of the Galaxy Note10 Lite: I would still like the glass at the back, given the cost of the smartphone.

How good is the screen?

Review of Samsung Galaxy Note10 Lite: for prudent fans of the line-13

Galaxy Note10 Lite and is equipped with a Super AMOLED display with a diagonal of 6.7 inches and a resolution of 2400 × 1080. Slightly smaller than the Galaxy Note10 + (6.8 inches) and larger than the Galaxy Note10 (6.3 inches), but the proportions of the new items are more elongated: 20: 9 instead of 19: 9. The pixel density is 394 ppi, slightly lower than Note10 with 401 ppi. There is a standard set in the settings: brightness adjustment, font size selection, the scale of interface elements, a blue filter, a dark interface theme, Always on Display, edge lighting (upon receipt of notifications) and two color display modes: “natural” and “saturated”. The latter has the ability to adjust the color temperature. This is all we have seen in past Samsung models. More interestingly, there is now anti-flicker protection (DC Dimming on some smartphones). It seems that she appeared with the new version of the software. But it’s not in the settings: it works by default and you cannot disable it. Although I don’t see much reason to turn it off.

Visually, I did not have any complaints about the screen: neither to the margin of brightness, nor to the picture. Is there a standard greenish shade of white at some angles? but this is a traditional AMOLED feature with PenTile subpixel layout. Although the effect is minimal. Indoors in the “natural” mode, the maximum brightness was 386.339 cd / m2, and the color rendering was very good. There is a very slight overabundance of blue, and the color gamut does not coincide with sRGB:

In “saturated” mode, the screen maximum brightness is slightly higher 398.897 cd / m2. Skew to cold shades a little more, but also within reason. The color gamut is significantly wider than sRGB, as in all AMOLED:

Comparison with other models:

What are the unlock methods?

Samsung Galaxy Note10 Lite review: for prudent fans of the 56-line

To unlock the smartphone provides a standard modern set. Identification by the face of the owner, of course, exclusively by the front camera. So this method cannot be called too safe, but it will obviously not be superfluous in the winter when the hands are in gloves. And a fingerprint scanner in the screen. Unlike flagships, an optical rather than an ultrasonic option is used. But it works very well: accurately and fairly quickly. Not lightning fast, but within comfortable limits.

What about performance, memory, sound and autonomy?

In general terms, the smartphone received the flagship components of the previous generation: the processor is the same as that used in the Samsung Galaxy S9 / S9 + and Note9. This is very good, because the flagship processors usually do not turn into a “pumpkin” after a year and their performance is still enough. In more detail: the smartphone has a 10-nanometer Samsung Exynos 9810 processor with four 2.7 GHz productive cores Mongoose M3, four energy-efficient 1.8 GHz Cortex-A55 and a Mali-G72 MP18 graphics accelerator. RAM – 6 GB. Yes, in performance tests, the smartphone is slightly inferior to the current flagships, but in real tasks there are no complaints about performance:

The smartphone works quite stably during long peak loads, a noticeable subsidence of performance is observed only after 10 minutes of the Throttling Test, while it drops to 86%, which is not critical.

With modern games, in general, there are no problems, there are no brakes or sagging frames. Although the heavy schedule, the championship is still behind the flagship Snapdragon. Call of Duty Mobile at very high graphics settings works very smoothly. According to personal feelings, FPS does not really sink below 60.

The Game Launcher and the Game Booster overlay are similar. Actual models that have already been in our reviews. The application allows you to configure performance (if necessary, then for each game), turn off notifications during the game, collect time statistics in games, take screenshots and videos:

Interfaces: Wi-Fi 802.11 a / b / g / n / ac 2.4 GHz and 5 GHz, Bluetooth 5.0 LE, NFC and FM. Supported global positioning systems GPS, GLONASS, Beidou, Galileo. Unlike its older brothers in the lineup, the smartphone cannot boast of stereo sound. The external speaker is alone and the speaker does not help him. But the volume is impressive. In quality – no revelations. Like the sound in the headphones. It is not bad and in the weight category of smartphones is in no way inferior to most models available on the market. The corporate player has a full range of necessary functions, including an equalizer, sorting by artist, album, track, and so on.

The battery capacity is 4500 mAh, which is even a little more than the flagship Galaxy Note10 +. On average, there is enough active use for a day and a half, including some games and videos from YouTube, social networks, mail, web surfing and a few photos. More active gamers will last for a day, and more restrained users will be able to stretch for 2 days. There are various options on the topic of energy saving modes, as well as something like the standard Android Well function Digital Wellbeing (Digital Balance), Samsung called it “Device Usage and Parental Controls”. Designed to monitor smartphone usage, time in different applications and time limits if necessary. In general, it was in the previous version of One UI, but with the update of functions, it became larger and the design changed.

The smartphone supports fast charging, but the delivery set did not come to our editorial office, so unfortunately there is nothing to say about the charging speed.

What’s with the interface and the S Pen?

Samsung Galaxy Note10 Lite runs on Android 10 with the updated shell One UI version 2.0. There are not many changes compared to the previous version. The general logic and stylization remained the same. The whole interface is redrawn in its own style, there are still chips for the convenience of managing one hand on large screens. In most system menus and in the full curtain (by the way, it is possible to call it anywhere on the screen, and not just from the top edge), the interface elements are shifted to the bottom of the display. To make it easier to reach with your finger. By default, there are desktops and a separate application menu, but you can turn it off and upload everything only to desktops. There is a “simplified” mode with large icons and some restrictions on the functions. Various design themes, live wallpapers, including on the lock screen, and so on, have not gone away. In addition to screenshots, there is now a regular ability to record video from the screen. Including recording sound on a microphone (for example, for your own comments).

In the previous version of One UI, there were two navigation options: a standard button bar and gesture navigation. But the latter was actually a duplication of the same buttons, only they did not have to make money, but pulled up from the desired part of the bottom edge of the screen. Now added a more convenient gesture option navigation, as in the new Android 10. Back – movement from the right or left edge of the screen, home – from the bottom, application manager – also pull from the bottom edge and hold your finger. This option seems to me more convenient and more logical.

Advanced dual-mode application manager. Including the ability to open the application in a window, make it translucent or minimize to an icon:

Interestingly, despite the lack of curved sides of the display, the Edge panel remained in the smartphone. Moreover, in the settings it is in the item “Curved screen”. But, in general, the functionality is already familiar. This is a set of quick tools that are triggered by movement from the edge of the screen in the place where the corresponding mark is located. Panels can be customized, downloaded and additional ones added. There are all sorts of compasses, rulers, flashlights, there is a list of quick contacts, a music player, a clipboard and so on.

The stylus of the S Pen seems to have migrated to the Galaxy Note9. It can recognize 4096 degrees of pressure, determine the slope and is equipped with one physical button. There are tons of different pribludy for drawing and quick handwritten notes. There is a possibility of a screenshot of a part of the screen with saving and annotations, live GIF-messages and translator. S Pen is equipped with Bluetooth and a built-in battery. There is no gyroscope, as in the Galaxy Note10 / 10 +, additional gestures with a stylus in the air are not supported, but as a remote control, the stylus can be used with the button. You can switch tracks in the player, scroll through slides in presentations, take photos and so on.

There is not much pre-installed software. In addition to the aforementioned player, radio and other necessary applications, there is a utility for optimizing the smartphone (cleaning RAM, memory, diagnostics), the traditional Bixby assistant, file manager, notes and S Health. Interestingly, S Health does not seem to have been updated yet: the interface remains bright with a dark interface theme.

How good are cameras?

Samsung Galaxy Note10 Lite review: for prudent fans of the 268 line

The main camera received three modules with the same resolution of 12 MP: the main one with f / 1.7, 1 / 2.55 “aperture, 1.4µm, Dual Pixel PDAF and optical stabilization, telephoto: 2x zoom, f / 2.4, 1 / 3.6”, 1.0µm , PDAF, also with OIS and ultra wide angle with f / 2.2 aperture. The front camera is 32 MP, f / 2.2.

As for the camera application itself, in One UI 2.0 it has changed a little, although the changes are not dramatic. All the basic controls in their usual places. Modes traditionally scroll. It’s fashionable to configure them: add ones you need, unnecessary ones – remove them. There is a separate menu for this. On the main screen there are flash settings, a timer, aspect ratio, enable the stabilizer (in the video), go to all settings and create animated photos. The camera switch is located next to the shutter button, which is convenient and logical. There is a fully manual Pro mode.

The main camera does an excellent job in almost any shooting conditions. The photos are saturated, with good detail and a wide dynamic range. Color reproduction during the day is realistic.

Samsung Galaxy Note10 Lite:

  • качественный большой AMOLED-дисплей;
  • высокая производительность;
  • приличная основная камера;
  • длительное время автономной работы;
  • стилус S Pen с функциями пульта ДУ.

2 причины не покупать Samsung Galaxy Note10 Lite:

  • Некоторые конкуренты в этой же ценовой категории могут предложить больше;
  • пластиковая задняя крышка.
