The email application easily recognizes emails that are part of a mailing list, usually some kind of business. These types of emails are marked with a message at the top of the header, “This is from a mailing list,” and a link to unsubscribe next to it.
If you choose to unsubscribe, the Mail app will automatically send an email to this company asking them to remove your email address from the mailing list.

How to unsubscribe from mailing lists (spam) in Mail on Mac
Open the Mail app on your Mac and follow these simple steps:
1. Select the email you want to unsubscribe from. It may already be open or in the inbox.
2. Click on the link button “Refuse»Opposite the inscription “Letter from the mailing list”…
3. Confirm this action by pressing OK…
After you do this, the email will not be moved or flagged in any way, but the option “Refuse” will disappear.
